What a pointless exercise....

I love it!

To all those asking "why" I say: why not?

The engineering and effort involved in putting the GT-R running gear into something as boring/mundane as a qashqai is surely worth a considerable amount of praise?

I can see the argument "for" this in that it's a bit of fun...but surely it would be even more fun to make a proper "GTR 4x4" that can go stupidly fast off road? I'm imagining a sort of Japanese Bowler Nemesis...evilnuts

But what's the point of a bowler nemisis?

I can apply that to everything, btw.

The point of this, is because they can. If I won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is put a 2JZ engine in a prius. Why?

Because I can.

It would be better if they spent some time getting rid of the GTR's horrible drive train rattle. Stopped me from buying one

i thought all GTI-Rs engines were individually manufactured for one car, how is this going to be possible.

Can the GTR engine even fit into the Quashqai without modifying the chassis? Never mind reengineering the drivetrain to work in the Quashqai as I imagine the 4wd already in it hasn't a hope of taking that kinda abuse.
Actually the more I think about the curiouser I am about how they're going to go about it.

A running feature on this build as it progresses would be very cool, and then a test against the Bowler Nemesis that Chris Harris covered and maybe a Murano as well

There's many boring fkers here.

Why own a fast car?
Why eat junk food?
Why jump out of a plane?

Because you can, and it's fun.

Christ, I think I'd rather stay in and cut my wrists with razor blades than go down the pub with some of you.
Whilst I agree with your sentiments entirely I happen to think that this is a less interesting project.
It's JUST too close to the recent Juke experiment.
I love an outrageous engine swap as much as the next man, by all means stick the GTR lump in a Leaf, Evoque, Morris Minor, Trabant etc. but I honestly couldn't care less about this.
Sorry

+1

To create something new out of nothing/spare parts/written off donor; no problem at all with that.

To destroy a very good car to make some mongrel that is probably not going to be as good as either of the two cars you started with makes no sense.

"Because you can" is not a reason for doing everyting. stick pins in your eyes? well, you can.. but its not a good idea is it?

I was going to point out that Frankenstein was the man who created the monster, not the actual monster.

Then I realised I might look like tt, so I didn't.

And yes, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Leave the GTR alone.

What a waste of time and presumably a lot of money.
