Really strange how this has aged. I remember seeing the magazine images back in 95 (?) and thinking at the time how great it looked.

Fast forward a few years after that and it seemed to age very badly - that rear wing especially looking way over the top.

.. but look at it now and it looks just so lovely, simple and raw in a way that every modern ferrari just isn't anymore.

Lovely thing.

Such a wild noise. I was at a trckday where a Carrera GT and an Enzo where giving it beans. The Enzo just shivered my spine every time it passed. I can imagine the F50 has a similarly spine tingling sound up close. Brill!

The picture above reminds me of a child's plastic "Racecar" bed - something odd-looking about the rear wing running in one smooth line up from the car. I'd have thought it would look good but just seems odd.
Ah well, doubt DK will lose any sleep over that.

An F40 and F50 do naughty things on the old Reims straight. The F50 has a savagery the F40 can't even get close to imo.

F50 fun starts about 50 seconds in.

Iirc, EVO crowned the F50 the greatest Ferrari of all time when they did a massive group-test a few years back.

Coming round to liking these a lot more than I ever did.

Which is a shame, as they're just out of budget. wobble

A lottery win would see me hunting down a yellow F50.

Bet the old grease monkeys at Fezza could knock one of these out for about 30 grand nowadays, no stupidly expensive KERS or carbon tubs.

Bit of steel tube, an old f1 engine from one of the store cupboards, a few melted wheely bins and "hey presto"

I will venture to say that in my opinion, those looks have aged well. I actually like the way it looks now but remember being a bit disappointed as a kid when I liked the F40 so much.
I thought I was alone! :O
me too, am warming to it, hated it when it came out (due to massive disappointment after the F40). Saw one at Paul Ricard a few years back up close and was pretty underwhelmed but there are some nice shots a few posts back

^^^

But in the last bit of the video, I was surprised by how similar the side profile is to the F40 whilst the other angles are not particularly.

F50 has now risen a few places in my dream garage off the back of this...

When I was a younger child, I always preferred the way this looks, and never really got the F40, then I though I'd seen the light and the F40 was better for a few troubled years.
Well, my taste has matured again, stunning car, beautiful design, you can really see how it influenced the enzo.

I'd take one over an F40 any day.

I've still got a Bburago scale model of one of these knocking about somewhere. About as close as I'll ever get to owning one!

Me too. Easy call really. The sound alone (like a Zonda) puts it in another class for sheer excitement. Plus the fact an F50 doesn't look like it was made from flat sheets of plywood only helps.

Always loved the F50. Roof come off as well which for me is very important to me... hate the feeling of being couped up in a car and luv the extra thrills open top motoring gives

Remember reading the famous Evo grouptest where after years of being the ugly ducking of the Super Ferraris they crowned it the surprise victor smile

I went on a little Ferrari lunch meet up thing last year and was lucky enough to get taken for a spin in one. Sadly was in London so hardly a thrilling ride! but nice experience to go out in my fav ever Ferrari at the time

I caused quite a stir last May when I collected my daughter from high school in the F50. Got caught and appeared in Midlands Exciting Cars Spotted Thread!!! (Vol 2) page 165. Next day she was told that the car was obviously not a real one because it didn't sound right - it's been de-catted and has a full Tubi exhaust, so it's plenty loud enough! I managed to get away without any photos when I did the same with the F40 (I was asked if it was a kit!). I would be very hard pushed to make a decision as to which is the better car. V12 or twin turbo V8? The ultimate performance is very similar, but the F40 requires more effort. The F50 is much better built (no green glue holding everything together) and the controls are lighter. When you consider that smaller turbocharged engines are the future, the F40 was seemingly years ahead of time. In theory F50 values should be much higher as they only built about one third as many as the F40; I believe that they will go the same way as the 288GTO which has shot up in the past couple of years. Having been lucky enough to spend a day last summer driving around with a friend of mine who own's an F40 this will always be the no1 Ferrari for me.

The F50 has always looked a bit bloated and plastic compared.
