A lottery win would see me hunting down a yellow F50.

Beautiful. I loved the 90s era of ferrari. I love how supercars had such a wide look about them from behind, especially with the black surrounding the rear lights. ferraris these days just don't have the same impact.

Excellent

Just doesn't look impressive.

I caused quite a stir last May when I collected my daughter from high school in the F50. Got caught and appeared in Midlands Exciting Cars Spotted Thread!!! (Vol 2) page 165. Next day she was told that the car was obviously not a real one because it didn't sound right - it's been de-catted and has a full Tubi exhaust, so it's plenty loud enough! I managed to get away without any photos when I did the same with the F40 (I was asked if it was a kit!). I would be very hard pushed to make a decision as to which is the better car. V12 or twin turbo V8? The ultimate performance is very similar, but the F40 requires more effort. The F50 is much better built (no green glue holding everything together) and the controls are lighter. When you consider that smaller turbocharged engines are the future, the F40 was seemingly years ahead of time. In theory F50 values should be much higher as they only built about one third as many as the F40; I believe that they will go the same way as the 288GTO which has shot up in the past couple of years. Was the engine in the 288 not the same (or at least very similar) to that in the F40? If so, it was even further ahead of its time! I only say this because I had Bburago models of both and the engines always looked similar in them. 288GTO is my favourite to look at too, although the 250GT) and 250GT0 and 250 GT SWB come close.

The F40 engine was an evolution of the GTO's. They were both V8 twin turbos of 2,855 cc and 2,936 cc respectively. The GTO produced 400 bhp/366 lb ft and the F40 478 bhp/425 lb ft.

Dont like the F50 one bit.

Now the F40 on the other hand is on my Lottery list.
I was the same until summer 2011, when I saw, heard and felt the full force of an F50 up close. At Italian car day near Bedford (Sharnbrook) the F50 left the hotel, turned ont the dual carriageway and properly "took off", what an epic noise - ver F1 like. #Awesome
Heard and seen several F40 whose sound suffers usual turbo-muffling.

If you were there in the Maserati, that could well have been mine. Ciro told me off for being 'a naughty boy', but I don't think he meant it..

Very cool. However the looks and sounds mean the F40 would soon become shuned into a dust gatherer. I don't think I coud ever walk past that F50! cool

Hi Kevin - it was a 50/50 it was you!

Did you ever get those carbon air vents?

Matt

Ha! It's true the vents on your F50 look wayyy better than oem Matt, but I've spent quite enough on the old girl for the moment

While I've always admired the F50 (from afar, sadly) it was not one of my favourite Ferraris.
After seeing the video, I don't think I've ever wanted a car so badly. Just looking at the leather steering wheel gets my juices going.
In this era of sanitation and technology it reminded me that mechanical purity is at the heart of what makes a car truly special.

My euromillions win is still on a F40 LM / Competizione though.
