My thoughts exactly. The older model was timid. Nice engineering but stylistically, a cop out. As if Jaguar lacked confidence.

The new one is much better. It also banishes in one move, the walnut sideboard and retired colonel image of Jaguars in the past.

Jaguars are cool now.
+1

I liked the older model (X350) but it was quite a conservative design and the interior just didn't feel special enough for me, in fact I felt it was rather off the pace compared to the competition, especially the 7-series of the same era. I actually preferred the interior of its predecessor (X308).

At first I had my doubts about the current XJ but I now think it looks sensational, especially in LWB form. After trying it out I was completely won over.

It doesn't have the bank-vault solidity of the S-class, but it feels more special and is so much better to drive. I felt that I could have fun with it all day.

Unfortunately the used prices aren't dropping as fast as I would like frown

That is more like it. A proper Jaguar. Beautiful.

Wake up Jaguar FFS.
Fortunately, you are in a minority.

Cars like these stopped selling. Jaguar were struggling.

The new generation Jaguars are selling well. Jaguar are busier now then they have ever been. Sales are strong.

Besides, I see these older XJ's and I just think of this:

It is good they have moved on.

They were doomed if they stuck with the old style.

Yeah wake up. Only when they looked like that no-one bought them and Jag nearly went bust. Jag stuck with the traditional look and it nearly killed them. They're doing a lot better now.

Jaguar really are on a roll at the moment, it's hard to think of another car company that has managed to turn around its image so comprehensively in a relatively short amount of time.

Get this car in the next Bond film as the villain's transport and all will be well!

MyCC.
Really? Do they sell that well? Hardly see any in the UK, and I should imagine that is Jaguar's main market.
The XJ is currently the best selling luxury car in the UK (bar the Range Rover) and Jaguar's main market has never really been the UK, the US and China/Russia are the big deamanders now.

My CC.

186 seems fine to me...
It's not the top speed it's how quickly it dispenses that 186mph. I'd imagine very slowly based on the size of it and the engine from an XF-R.

I prefer a SuperSport, with the supercharged V8. Looks better, probably has a better ride, and doesn't really lack power with it's 510 bhp..
I must admit I didn't know that Jag were going to build an XJR as the SuperSport does all of this already! I assumed it was the new XJR!

Why slowly?

They weigh less than their BMW, Audi and Merc equivalents, and about the same as an XFR.

Basically for that noise the only things you need to do to any R model Jag at is a new exhaust, take the sound deadening away from the supercharger, and add a couple of cone filters. I believe that's all that was done to that car. Your neighbours wouldn't thank you, mind.

In a word - Awesome!

If I have the money and was looking for a super-saloon, I would get this over an M5 or an XFR over an M3. Not quite as track focused, but for say to say fast road use, so much mor refined IMO.

How much will this cost? £100k?
It will be much less than that for a 1 year old model based on supersport depreciation.

The XFR is no slouch, and IIRC the XJ is the lightweight (literally) of the class. It'll be just fine.

In terms of numbers, I believe so, But that's largely on XFs, especially the 2.0 and 2.2 diesels. The majority of XJs go abroad, IIRC.

In my (biased) opinion, the XJs are wonderful, wonderful things. Proper Jaguars. Grace, space, pace cloud9

XJ outsold A8 and 7 last year in the UK. Take a look here. 2012, before a full years worth of XF Sportsbrake.

Fixed dodgy formatting.

Given what JLR have achieved with the new Range Rover I'm inclined to believe it TBH.
