I chased a brand new at the time s1 Escort rs turbo down the A64 near York in mine. It was only when we were into triple figures that he started to pull away. I did lose two of my wheel centre caps though laugh

Standard 131 sport had a single downdraft weber 38?

Recommendation was to go twins for more power - DCNF's if I recall as opposed to the DCOE' s that the ford guys used.

Either way the 131sport was quicker than an Rs2000 and had more grip as it was one of the first cars to run low profile tyres P6's

My brother had one orange AAO8T and one black!

Arinco racing Orange with black velour was the best. They were a little bit under steery unless you were on it but more than a match for Fords and BMWs at the time.

Some of you might enjoy seeing some pictures of my Abarth 130TC, I just bought it a few days ago after 7 years of looking for one (I wanted one 'like new') :

Does the rear run off one leaf spring across the axle?

Yes. Easiest/cheapest car I've owned when it comes to lowering the rear.

Never been a fan of red 130's...........until I saw these pics. Fantastic on all counts. Love the seats with Abarth sown under the headrests. I am truly jealous smile

stunning - examples great to see at least two mint exmaples in this thread - all we need now is 131sport?

Back in the day there were a couple of these running round with sprintex/rotrex superchargers on them - I think Avanti Tunning or was it Avanti Rizutti Racing built them - wonder where they ended up?

Looking at the engine bay just reminds me of how compact and simple these power plants were - really easy to work on too!

This is me in 1996 at Lydden Hill in the AutoItalia Championship, I also contested the Slick 50 Road Saloons with it, I sold it in 1998 and bought it back in 2006 after finding it on E**y! It's now in my garage in bits slowly being restored back to do some sprints and track days. Great cars.

Brilliant pic = notice the 127sport back there - also an xr2 and Gti basher in its day.

I think if you beat the rot an abarth is a great car to keep due to its simplicity. Sadly mine wasnt a great example - I remember for some reason it ended up with a rust hole halfway up the A pillar actually in the door jamb - why?

IIRC the race series of the days were the Slick50 or the Italian Intermarque challenge or trophy?

I also remember the Fiat Twin Cam Register being quite active.
