I know I'll probably get grief for this, but people who, by definition in owning at least 18 cars already, have st loads of money, do slightly irk me when they say things like "There was no way I could afford a brand new one".

Its a lovely car, and I don't mind at all that he or anyone else has the money to buy it, but come on, don't patronise people that don't have the ability to buy even one car like this, 2nd hand or otherwise, by saying things that patently aren't true like they couldn't afford it.

Love one! just to me seem so much more worthy of a PH crown than most of the stuff on sale this side of the pond has to offer. Gotta love that raw visceral appeal. wanna swap for an ibiza? lol

Great stuff. I really like virtually all of these modern interpretations of muscle cars.

Same here.

While I am a Ford guy, the Challenger has the most presence of the three, I think.

They were much bigger in-the-flesh than I expected. Not my thing but I get a kick out of seeing them. No one mentioned the movie Vanishing Point so I just did.

He has 18 cars because he didn't buy them all new perhaps?

Not as much as it irks me when someone who is quite clearly a car nut gets abuse for being a car nut on a car nut forum. wink

Depending on when the guy bought them not all of those are a lot of money to purchase second hand. 57 Beetle and 63 Split? Expensive now but I had an Oval Beetle bought for 600. Needed channels, floorpan, engine, gearbox etc. Likewise Splits - mate was importing them about 10 years ago for $4000. 750iL depreciate like mad.

Don't be surprised if those 18 cars cost less than the one Caterham R500 you were looking to buy. wink

Anyway..

Love the Charger. I'm not normally a fan of the new muscle cars as they often seem too contrived but I do love the Charger! Nice story too.

This. They always look great when I'm visiting the States, but slightly odd when driving around the smaller roads at home in the UK. However, that is a stunning beast - loving the portfolio of cars also - great write up!

I have a burning desire to own something with a HEMI badge on it, would love one of these but SRT 300C's and grand cherokees are a little more in price range!

Very jealous of this......
Get yerself a hemi-truck, nice sounding, quite large and unmissable (especially in Yellow!)!

As for this... hope I can afford one for the big birthday in a few years time, simply awesome!!

Yes, this made me scratch my head a bit too. The exhasust on the car in the pics is bone stock too.
Just for the record the 6.1 hemi had no cylinder deactivation capability. My 6.1 SRT-8 300C gave me an average (US) 16mpg and weighs about 180lbs more than a stock Challenger.
Yep, as Matt says, no cylinder deactivation on the SRT8. My 300C SRT8 on a long run with cruise at 70mph would return 30mpg, that's UK gallons of course, you'd have to remember on the Challenger to add 20% to what the computer tells you.

Nice car though, been tempted so many times.

The 6.4 auto in the later cars has cylinder deactivation and is surprisingly economical on a run.

Great fun to drive as well.

Am I the only one who sees an a with a hat, a Euro sign and a TM sign whenever there is an apostrophe in that story?

Fantastic. Love one. Couldn't live with a 1500 mile cap, what a waste. I could do that in a month of long weekends touring. Still a fantastic car though.
