Looking good will sell very well around the world earning good money for UK PLC
Exactly. Wouldn't choose one of these myself, but as owner of a current disco 4, and a 13 yr old defender 90 TD5, I admire the direction the company is heading in and take my hat off to JLR team for making it the success it is today. And they are built here. This will sell really well both domestically and abroad, and the pricing is all no doubt part of the strategy to push the big Rangie into ever more elite leagues (seemingly where it now deserves to be) while leaving a credible option for the rest of us to consider. So when you see some fake tanned towie wannabe berk driving one, just lie back and think of England......The range now looks modern, is modern, can still do the biz but can also function on roads. Sales of Rangers are much better than they used to be and they now have a car for each of their intended markets. The New Spaut looks great and with the config list it will give all those preppies and footy players all the bling they need init.
Well done Range Rover. Given what they were like, what 5 years ago.
As for utilitarian, no one wants something like the 110 anymore (and why would you) but if they make that concept replacement then it will clearly given the continued investment in 4*4 and lighter body shell also be a success.
Brilliant, well done Range Rover.

Good car. I'm sure it will lead the class. Well done JLR.
It is interesting how people see the "intended market" as being all about cheshire wives and wannabees. Around my neck of the woods, the RRS is popular with public school mums and even with the kind of grimy hunting and fishing type you would normally expect to see in a regular RR. In grey or green with a black interior, I'm sure the new one will still fit right in once it has a bit of muck on it.
Only the Cayenne with a V8 diesel could possibly deflect me.

Loving the way land rover are lowering the weight, it's a great improvement,
The weight reduction is part marketing bullst as they are not comparing like with like. To get that 400kg reduction they are comparing the weight of the new Diesel V6 with the old Diesel V8 model on the basis that the new V6 has similar power outputs to the old V8. If you compare the new model's V8 diesel with the old model's V8 diesel the weight difference is only 200kg's. Still impressive but not as good as they would have you believe.......It's a bit like BMW comparing the weight of the new 320d with the old 330d.........
One quick thing PH - the chap wot wrote this. Is English his first language? There is a lot of dodgy English. Easy on the idioms as well chaps.
For example, "The take-up of the 'real' four-wheel drive option - standard on V8s - will be an interesting indication of whether the target audience gives a flying one or not.
Sorry, but that is awful...

Sorry, they're comparing a car's weight with the same power new and old, to me that's a direct comparison. Presumably comparing v8 vs v8 wouldn't be a direct comparison as the new one would be more powerful? It's a bit like BMW comparing the weight of the new 320d with the old 330d.........
You don't quote the same argument when a manufacturer quotes better mpg with the new model and then complain that the engine is a different size?

There's nothing wrong with the car.
Agreed, it's absolutely lovely. JLR is really on a roll and regardless of the negativity surrounding the type of people who supposedly this is aimed at I for one am glad that the UK is making/exporting these and keeping people in jobs at this point of economic uncertainly.RedTrident said:
I always wanted a Subaru wrx type uk but could never shake off the the image of being compared to the local dodgy drug dealers. Fast forward 10 years and on my way to buy an r8, after convincing myself that it wasn't drawing a chav type following, I drove past a tight t shirt wearing man getting into his blinged up r8. Never made it to the Audi garage.
I think that's a real shame. People will judge you on your age, weight, height and racial background and even your hair (or lack of it) - surely life is too short to go around worrying about what they think! I say buy what you want to but and enjoy it, there's a saying about a man only being old when regrets take the place of dreams?Years ago, I had an Audi TT convertible which I loved owning but it obviously attracted the usual hairdresser jokes. My response was always "I'm happy with the choices I've made in my life and hope you are with yours". No-one ever really had a satisfying response to that...

I think several important figures are missing from the article. We know it's based on the current Range Rover. Therefore, it's lighter and slightly bigger than the current Sport. However, is it lighter and smaller than the new Range Rover? And, has it got a shorter wheelbase compared to the Range Rover? If the Sport is in every way so close to the proper Range Rover now, then what's the point? Just because it will be slightly cheaper?
I always hoped the so called Sport could be a real 3dr version of the Range Rover with shorter wheel base and minimum front/rear bumper design. You know how the old 3dr use to be...

If, due the weight difference, performance is comparable then I'd argue it is a valid comparison. It's a bit like BMW comparing the weight of the new 320d with the old 330d.........
Firstly, in my opinion, this is a fantastic car. it looks great, its technologically pioneering and offers impressive vehicle dynamics.
Can't believe the comments on these forums some times... Someone referred to it as a 'Chav chariot'.. i'd like to know how many chav's can afford to buy one! idiot.
people get too involved in the so called 'demographic' that these cars are driven by. 'footballers' 'Chelsea tractors' 'TOWIE' etc etc.. Who do people think are actually going to drive vehicles that retail at £60K+!! people who have money. In this country it is the footballers, sportsmen and women, celebrities and the families that have the luxury of one (very)large income.

JLR are doing exceptionally well and is one of few UK companies that are extremely appealing to global consumers. So they must be doing something right. We should be lauding the British engineering and the success of a British company in these challenging times.
Also, some posters on this forum have complained about the 'good old 4x4's' 'true 4x4's' etc ... The Discovery and Defender are still on sale by the way. Plus, you'll find the RR and RRS aren't bad at that either ;-)
