I think the problem is its far to easy to get stolen cars out of the country. If I import a car it never leaves customs until paperwork and other stuff is completed so how these people are able to put high end cars or indeed any car on on boat with little more than a photocopied log book is beyond me.

Every car that is to be exported should be subject to a proper ID check by customs and if it cost £500 then so be it.

We live on an island so this should not be hard to do really should it ?

@ Monty Zoomer, you're right. Beating anybody, including a burglar will only cause trouble. In ways the burglar has less to risk, as once he is gone he is not connected to the property.

To the last two posters (apart from Stinkfoot), I'm usually very candid, but neither of you seems to really be in touch with the concept at hand.
Petrolhead95, for you the difference between verb and adverb seems to be perplexing.
thehammer, it's true that you're not being a nob. And the notion of the negative term 'not' seems to be alien to you.

@Stinkfoot - it can be difficult to see cars in shipping containers. And there are other ways to avoid it.

JREwing thanks for seeing that I didnt want to come across as a nob.

Your correct my post was slightly off the original topic but I think still relevant to the subject.

I'm sorry that my english isnt up to standard.

Dont you have to declare whats in the shipping container ? If not then I may as well grow 1000's of cannabis plants and ship them abroad. It is ridiculous that these containers can leave our country and they could contain absolutely anything and no one seems to lift a finger to check them.

I have been off topic many times, so ignore my input. And I'm sorry for the blunt and unnecessary approach.

However I can't imagine that this will console the owner, nor will it help anyone else in a similar situation.

To be honest, reading my post again, I feel like a knob. It came out differently to my intention.
As everything I say and write does.

So I honestly do have to apologise. It was unreasonable (but unintentional!).

Friend had his 996 stolen a while back. Broke the front door down and took the keys from the kitchen.

Big, strong, expensive door as well. I'm guessing that the OP's friend has adequate security, but they always find a way. Nothing is impossible etc.

Sorry to hear and hope they get what's coming to them and the owner gets a positive result.

Horrible reading this. frown

Just to clarify, was it nicked from the garage or from on the drive? It seems to have been on the drive, but I maybe missed this bit.

Reason I ask is if it's on the drive it's at so much more risk than being in the garage simply as it's visible 24/7. We are moving house towards the end of this year and we selected a £50 option to have the garage wired into the main house alarm with a proximity sensor and a trip switch on the door. Best £50 you could spend. If I had anything like this I'd be taking loads of measures to keep it safe. I'll certainly be doing so with my bike and it's worth nothing like the value this car.

Hope the owner gets the result he wants from this - whether that's the same car back, or a payout to replace it with something else. frown

Both my Dad and my Sister have had burglaries whilst upstairs asleep.Didn't hear a thing.Scary stuff.Fortunately I have a dog, he'll bark his head off if anyone comes onto our property, and would I get out of bed and go downstairs, yes indeedy.I work bl**dy hard for my stuff, I'm not about to let some scumbag take it from me without a fight.I'd take the consequences on the chin along with any blows I'd receive.Sensible, no, but it's what I'd do.The last thing the crims want is for a householder to fight back, it's not what they are after.

No. The problem is there are two many low life thieving pricks who don't deserve to live.

One day we will read in the news something along the following.

"Burglar sues homeowner for damage to his knuckles after he beat the st out of the owner of the property because he would not give the thief his keys - and wins case".

Only in the UK.

We hide our keys completely out of sight. In fact, I'd be surprised if anyone could find them, they're really well hidden. Lets hope we don't get robbed...
And what happens when you get broken into for the keys and they come up after the keys? They have gone far enough to break in what else would they do? For the sake of a bit of metal I dont see why you wouldnt just leave them where they can find them and leave? Not having a pop, each to their own but just wondering what you would do if some blokes dragged you and the mrs (maybe kids) out of bed at knife/gun point wanting the keys?
...to some people, a car isn't just a piece of metal. It can hold sentimental value and for some people, that's worth risking your life for.
Amen to that.

Anyone who thinks they can simply take my car is in for a surprise. I worked hard for it, It means a lot more to me than just metal and I'll fight for it.

Its worth a small fortune it's a 1985 pre production one.
I remember my mates sister buying a red one in 1988/9, it was one of the first out and she had to pay way over the odds from an independent dealer as there was a big waiting list for them and it was the only way she could get one.

Friend got burgled while upstairs asleep, when coming down in the morning to lack of TV & computer etc etc he noticed the lovely scumbags had all the kitchen knifes scattered around, presumably to have them close at hand if disturbed by the householder.

Nice types to have roaming around downstairs in the house at night with the family asleep 'eh.

It's actually quite daunting to be woken by 3 people at the end of your bed, shining a light in your eyes waking you up shouting how they'll kill you if you don't hand over your keys whilst your half asleep and very disorientated with your wife in bed as well and a child in another room.

You have no idea what they're willing to do for the keys, whether your family will be at risk or able to see if they have knives, bats or other items which they probably don't plan to tickle you with.

I have car insurance no car is more valuable to me than my family so whilst my keys are visible they're not in the most difficult place in the world to find. I was burgled 2011 it's not a fun thing to go through.

House is well alarmed now but if someone wants something they'll take it regardless.

And I personally cannot believe the rights these scum have if they get shot by the owner with a legally owned shotgun etc.
