Is it financed and does your mate have GAP? If so, tell him that the Tracker removal is a blessing. Who wants a stolen car back? And then, PM me for a cheeky replacement. smile

As with all things. Property can be replaced. What is important is that your mate/ family came to no harm. It is, after all, a car.

This, definitely.
I doubt he feels lucky right now but TVR's right, it's just metal.

You still have my sympathies though.

Ours will only fly at certain times now. The days of 24 hour cover are long gone. Finances and all that.

Thank you, government.

How did they manage to remove tracker without completely immobilising the car?

You can buy devices that block the signal

Ah yes, never thought of that. I get a call quite quickly if the car and tracker card lost contact so I'd imagine that's not much use if the signal is blocked...

Hopefully the culprits are caught soon. German cars like Audis and BMWs seem to be a very popular target with thieves now.

He might get lucky, I had my company car stolen a couple of months ago after a burglary for the keys (BMW 328i). Didn't expect to see it again but got a call just over a week later to say it had been recovered and was sat in a compound.

Still waiting for the repairs to be completed at the moment however due to much pissing around by the lease company/dealership/bodyshop. Not sure I would want it back if it had been my own car as it's needed a fair amount of work doing.

Presumably because they tend to be of relatively high value and very popular?

Would they be likely to have removed tracker? I wuoldn't have thought the tracker would be easy to ditch, or put it in a trailer/truck of some sort that'll block the signal?

R8's seems as good as gone. If they are clued up enough on how to remove the latest hi tech trackers then they seem to know what they are doing, no chance you will be seeing that again. It's most likely getting shipped over in a container overseas as we speak.

Same thing happend to my mates DB9 last year.
Yep it will have cloned plates on do wont trip anpr. Maybe you will get lucky and the police will pull over any blue R8's heading towards the coast, but its a long shot.
It is.

But its ok. They'll catch you or I doing a few mph over the limit on a clear day and empty road with their stationary cameras. Job jobbed.

It's passé these days for hundred grand motors to not have them.

I can only echo what others have said, property can be replaced and, luckily, no-one was harmed. It could have been a lot worse.

My sympathies. Speaking from experience bear in mind once the car is replaced on insurance there is a chance of them coming back and doing the same thing again. Either find a better tracker or get a dog or two. Do not hide your keys etc as it only puts you at risk if they break in again and cant find the keys quietly themselves. Additionally if you have workmen round never put your car keys away in a drawer when they are around - its just too tempting a tip off if they know your car, your locks, and spot where the keys are kept.

Does that imply they tried to chase it and lost it, or just decided not to bother trying?

Bit about the chopper sounds odd too?
