What car - family heirloom
Discussion
Largely a hypothetical question, but I was thinking what car would I buy (probably new) and then keep "forever" eventually handing down to my newborn son? I'm thinking when he's like 25-30 or something, not when he's 17.
Obviously it doesn't need to be new but I think it would be nice for our family to be the only history.
What car is going to keep your interest for the next 30 years and may be a good classic? Something usable that isn't going to be a garage princess. And something which won't bankrupt him, or me.
M3 - the last of the N/As?
911 GT3 - useable sports car?

Was going to be my son's inheritance, but I'm flogging my 'classic' on the basis that I'm not getting to drive it and he can buy his own one day if he really wants one!
IF you're going to tie up money in a car, it had better be appreciating pretty hard to make it a better investment than 50 years at 2%..

A trust fund. If the car is cheap enough to run not to bankrupt you both it probably won't be interesting enough to be worth anything when he's old enough. Particularly as you don't want a garage queen and it will attract wear and tear through use.
Finally, he may grow up to have little interest in cars (or no aptitude for driving exciting cars) and may not be a valued or sensible/safe gift to pass on?
Just an alternative view
