If you press and hold the 'auto' button for 5 seconds on the climate control of any modern Audi that has the left/right temp knobs, it will synchronize the temperature meaning you only have to turn one knob to increase/decrease both L & R temp.

If any once can tell me how to do this in a BMW F30 I will be grateful!
You probably can't. I asked the same of my E92 a while ago.

There's a useful middle sun visor in my Audi A4 which a friend who had a similar car hadn't discovered until I used it in mine.

Brilliant - I keep going through the menu for that after my mrs has been fiddling about with her side and the fans go on max to compensate for the desert/arctic temperature difference

Apparently the Audi A5 has a secret menu to configure what rattles and creaks you want turned on. The previous owner had them all turned on, and I could never find the menu to turn them off.

A strange one on the Rx8, the below procedure causes it to ramp up the AC strength, i'm still not clear on what it's doing - adjusting the mix flap maybe? Either way, if i disconnect the battery, the AC is limper than a limp thing until i do this then it's normal. Weird, why ship a car with A/C control set to "weak" then have a secret button procedure to set it to normal.

  1. Make sure the car is off AND the HVAC fan is off AND the A/C on/off button is off.
  2. Press and hold the front defroster (on the left) AND air source (recirc/fresh air) buttons
  3. Continue pressing the buttons in step 2 and turn the key to ACC for 3 seconds
  4. Continue pressing the buttons in step 2 and further turn the key to ON (NOT START) for 3 sec.
  5. Verify the programming update by observing the REAR defroster LED blink 3 times.
  6. Release the two buttons from step 2 and start the car.

Because you live in a temperate climate and not in Dubai?

In my mk4 Golf with auto AC, you could access a secret menu/display by pressing a specific combination of buttons. One of the most useful features was was that the digital display would show the "real" current speed, which was meant to be more accurate than the speedo.
Same with the Passat, and it's fan down, temp down, econ. All pressed at once. You can also see things like the actual coolant temperature. Before I had my temp sender done, the gauge read cold, and the diag. menu read 127 degrees!

A few Audis of that generation have that. MK1 TT has a combination of buttons you can press to bring up all sorts of not very useful engine monitoring data. It's most often used to monitor engine water temperature during the inevitable thermostat failure.

Google 49c trick for details.

As the engine and turbo weakens with age the body shell on my integrale disintegrates to keep an equilibrium of power to weight.
Very cunning

Astra H has a "secret" menu that you access by holding down the BC or the settings butron until it beeps. You can then cycle through the menus for some stuff. I use it to monitor the coolant temp as it doesn't have a standard guage and the speed is repeated and converted to Km/h.

You can also put the electric windows up/down by holding the lock (to go up) or unlock (to go down) buttons on the remote key.

Daft question..but how do you know?

(presumably in the dark they're on anyway, and how do you tell in daylight..do dash lights come on too? wobble)

Just interested, because they don't come on in mine

Some cars have a flooded start feature where if you press the accelerator to floor and crank the engine, it will not inject any more fuel allowing you to clear the excess and start the car.

Here's one from a different generation.

Morris Minor 1000 had oil filter blocked light. It's only referred to in circuit diagrams.

That used to be called a 'carburettor' on older cars wink.

On my old integrale if you pressed one of the buttons on the digital clock it would then desplay a stop watch. I can't imagine they would allow that on a car now.
