I see a fair few German cars parked up with the wrong parking light on so presumably the owners have activated it accidentally and are oblivious to the feature.

I've still not discovered what the little toggle switch in the glove box of my Alpina does. I'm beginning to think it's only there so I can post in threads like this biggrin

On my old integrale if you pressed one of the buttons on the digital clock it would then desplay a stop watch. I can't imagine they would allow that on a car now.
BMW offer one as an option, built into the top of steering wheel = "race display"

One OLED and two LED displays, with keys on the thumbrests activating three modes: EfficientDynamics for a fuel-saving drive, Sport with a stopwatch, consumption and g-meter and Race with a stopwatch for lap times and acceleration measurements (e.g. a 0–100 km/h sprint).

3 that I know of in my Discovery, all concerning the SLABS unit (body control ecu)

1. Hidden in a submenu is an option for "police mode". I gather that when teamed with the appropriate configuration of relays, it enables the alternating strobing of headlights seen on trafplod cars

2. Normally when SLABS senses the centre difflock is engaged, it disables traction control. No idea why, but cutting the appropriate wire (or putting a switch inline) prevents this

3. it is also possible to change the settings on the computer controlled antiroll bars to make the car lean in when cornering, like a motorbike

Not to mention the sports chrono pack Porsche offer. Not so secret though when there's a bloody great clock face bolted to the top of the dashboard!

On my g ZT-T If you press the button on the key fob for so many seconds on entry, it adjusts the drivers seat to one of the presets. I only found out about it when reading the handbook.

Apparently if you hook it up to a workshop computer you can unlock other "Easter Eggs" like DRLs speed sensitive ocking, light delay and other stuff.

Discovered the alternate menu as mentioned above, on my Astra H years ago.

Does anyone know of any hidden features on the 2013 Freelander?

Is the Alpina toggle switch not a way of cooling the glove box by redirecting the air con? Again, on my Astra H back in 2006, I recall you could buy a very cheap slider switch thing that allowed you to cool the glive box.

Some cars have a flooded start feature where if you press the accelerator to floor and crank the engine, it will not inject any more fuel allowing you to clear the excess and start the car.
Very handy for building some oil pressure on a car that hasn't started for a while or has been recently serviced..

A couple on the phase 2 Xantia:

Firstly it's not possible to lift the wipers away from the windscreen when they are parked as the edge of the bonnet prevents this. Flicking the wiper stalk down parks the wipers in a second, high position so they can be lifted off the screen as normal.

Secondly there are hidden storage compartments in the doors! The are under the interior door handles and can be opened only by lifting and pulling the handle inwards. I only found out about them as a friend complained the door handle was loose. Quite what the point is I don't know; but potentially useful.

While first gear crawling in a traffic jam in my old Mitsubishi GTO TT, I discovered that it senses extra demand for the air-con by increasing the idle revs slightly. A handy low speed control: air-con off, economy mode, full auto = 3 diff speeds.

I discovered a secret glove box in my MINI a couple of months ago - it's just above the normal glove box.

Mk4 Golf generation cars with the climate control could show diagnostic fault codes in the climate control display as well as 62 seperate sensor readings in real time (everything from engine RPM to Air Con compressor speed). It was accessed thusly; "Press and hold the recirculation button. Then press the manual flow control up arrow. You should see a 1c. Press the temperature up ("+") or down ("-") buttons to select a code number. Then press the recirculation button again. The value should display. Press the temperature up or down button again to display another code."

Mk1 Ford Focus had a similar instrument cluster self diagnostic mode.

Vauxhall Monaro has an emergency manual boot release handle which can be found by lifting up the rear nearside passenger's headrest.

Holding the unlock button on the fob down opening all the windows etc, holding the lock button does the opposite. Works on many cars.

Porsche Boxster / Cayman / 911 front boot release cable is quite cool and very few people seem to know about it.

As is their left hand / right hand drive light switch for driving in France etc. Again few people seem aware.

Couple of my Audis: hold the key fob down & the windows close. Not sure if that is particularly secret though.

In the recent warmish weather I have discovered that the solar panels in the sunroof of my A8 run the air con when the car is parked up so i never return to a hot vehicle.
