RE: Leyland Daf T244 Camper: You Know You Want To

The minimum power output of the 5.9-litre Cummins 6BT turbodiesel engine should be 130bhp. The standard N/A non turbo model was rated at 115bhp. Other turbo model variants went up to around 170bhp, depending on the fuel pump fitted.
Anyway, this vehicle is good for a romp anywhere you can vehicle, lol.

Its never about horsepower with a commercial engine. Ive driven a Volvo with only 180bhp, which weighed six tonnes, but could carry twice that on its back.
Id be concerned about the incredibly high cost of maintenance (not just inspections, but the regular replacements and repairs) and the even higher cost of fuel.
When youre running a working vehicle which is making £300-£400 a day then 6mpg can be tolerated, but when youre off on a jaunt then itll spoil your holiday by the first fill-up!

You could buy that, or you could buy my mates camper converted Ural instead, which lets face it beats it in most respects even if a little rough around the edges....
Nicely parked. That'll do, whose going to argue.I can imagine you'd make friends really quickly when you turn up at a campsite with one of these.

Benbay001, weren't you, or are you, looking for something like this?
I certainly was. And still am. For those who havnt seen the thread i posted, the general idea was to buy one of these and bolt a caravan straight to the chassis.
I work at outdoor events all year around, agricultural shows if you like. When it rains every man and their dog gets stuck and requires towing out.
I am of the opinion that with one of these, that wont be nessesary.
They are also cheap, British and you can be reasonably confident they have been maintained to a good standard by the British army.
Here is a badly done Google sketchup of what it is supposed to look like.
I calculated the price would be about £15000. £7500 for lorry. £5000 for skanky caravan. £2500 for parts and unforseen circumstances.
And here is the initial thread.
