I'm posting this from my hotel bedroom which is no more than half-a-mile from the Futa...

Marvellous - the rain has momentarily stopped. The entire area is full of recce cars, service cars, backup cars, enthusiasts cars and fking lunatic Italians in Fiats going sideways into downhill hairpins. And she had the bairn in a child seat on the back...

Oh well, off to a checkpoint in the morning then a nice Tuscany villa for a week before tackling the Route Napoleon and the gorges on the way home.

I'm sure this has all ready been said but my god I'm jealous. Something I would love to even just go to see the mille miglia. Its like the tour de france of the old cars (but in spirit and in Italy)

Speaking of bucket lists, what would be the most affordable car having any chance at an entry? Apart from the somewhat prohibitive €7.500 entry fee, I assume you can't just turn up in say a 1956 SAAB 93 and have a go?

Thanks! Looked at that a bit already, hence the two-stroke SAAB mentioned. That's on the list, as well as say stuff like an MG A. So nore or less affordable kit really. Can't see something like that having a real chance though...

My brother and I are flying into Pisa tomorrow, driving up to Futa Pass, staying in Modena, visiting Ferrari museum, driving up to Brescia and then out of Milan. Very cheap trip. A friend of mine is currently participating in his DB2 Vantage....the cost of participating in it is not for the feint hearted! Had an email from my mate to say he had seen Chris and the Jag was going "all out". Cant wait.

I just passed Chris as he was coming of Fornacella (4.5 miles north of Sienna). Gave him a wave and a few beeps of the horn as I passed in the other direction. He must be very late for his lunch now

I loved watching Metcalfe in his Ferrari a couple of years ago doing it, it was about 20minutes long, great video.

Really need to go and see those 200si Maseratis, sound better than most v12's with an inline 4...

Awsome stuff Harris!

Great to read the updates from the "race". Seems daft to still handle it as a regularity race.
Perhaps a good dose of Italy and a Jag will cure Mr Harris of his Porsche weakness.

The cracks are already appearing.....!

I used to live in Ferrara and the night the Miglie Miglia came in to town was always one of the highlights of the year. Great atmosphere and the opportunity to get close to some amazing cars. For some bizarre reason the one that really sticks in my mind was an NSU Sport Prinz that turned up one year - I really rue the lack of light, delicate, not necessarily all that fast sporting cars these days.

All the entrants were listed in a very nice and free programme i picked up at the MM Museum in

Brescia but all Jaguars entries had no names against their cars so had no idea who was in their

cars.

I saw him on the same corner as the pic i posted above and was just surprised he was hanging

out the door [almost] of an old Jag in Italy...nuts
