RE: Harris on the Mille Miglia: PH Liveblog
Discussion
Glad to see that Chris is human afterall when he blogged "too ruined last night to blog". I have not done the MM proper but I have done the Ferrari Tribute to the Mille Miglia and at the end of each day, facing about 3 hours sleep before another 15 hours behind the wheel, the last thing I could have considered doing is blogging!
Excellent stuff.
I reckon a lot of people will look at these and just see a lot of old cars. But in reality some of these old machines are amazing in the flesh. Some of them are a real challenge to drive. And some of them are surprisingly quick.
As Mr Harris is learning, classic car rallies can be immensely gruelling and there are times when the speeds involved are genuinely surprising.

I got back last night and will get my pics up later tonight. I caught the cars leaving the start in Brescia, then based myself in Maranello - plan was to drive down with them from Ferrara to San Morino on day 2 (but over slept), then drive down to Siena day 3 and catch the cars coming through the old town but left (I thought) way to late to make it so I stopped on the SR2 by Sambuca to take pics of the first couple of hundred cars before continuing down the SR2 to Siena (the wife wanted to go again).I was genuinely shocked at how fast and committed the cars were being driven. I saw some horrible near misses at the junction I was standing by here. One with cars three abreast overtaking with an old t35 Bugatti overtaking them all and a car comes off the motorway not realising, and crosses the junction - god only knows how the Bugatti avoided the car but I did let out a huge scream.

I followed some of the cars at silly o clock after Verona [which i got hopelessly lost in]and the Carabinieri just stood by and watched as we all were doubling the posted limits.
I think that some thought i was part of the event in the retro look Fiat...

lucky git Monkey. well done oh and dont bend it!
another bucket list item for me... one day i will get there. The hard part is getting a nice old classic that is eligible.
If you're serious I know of a Healey Westland for sale (assuming it hasn't sold already) that's done the MM twice in recent years, and once or twice in the 40s.another bucket list item for me... one day i will get there. The hard part is getting a nice old classic that is eligible.
Won't be cheap though!
