its about adding some individuality to a piece of equipment that has been replicated thousands of times over.
Sort of like when people get a tattoo then.
Yes, exactly the same right down to the last detail where not everyone is forced to have a tattoo unlike being required to display a registration.

Other than that you're bang on the money, as usual.
Comprehension not your forte, eh? laugh
I think it's you that's lacking, it's nothing like getting a tattoo at all rofl
I'm saying people get tattoos to "add some individuality" - see coldell's post - people get plates to "add some individuality".

Not sure why you have trouble with the concept, but heyho. smile

Because as a tenet it's simply wrong, which has been pointed out to you many times before.

What don't you understand about that?

As cmoose mentions, theres nothing 'private' about these plates.
Bell end plates for bell ends trying to give it the 'look at me ive got a bell end plate'. Or others trying in vain to make their POS look newer than what it is..even though its the 'old' model...bell ends with nothing more of importance in their lives..
Much like forum user names then .....
Funniest thing on PH for a long time.

"22rgt B Squadron" commenting on this thread to take the piss out of private plates is probably the funniest example of someone not understanding irony, since irony was invented.

I love Pistonheads. rofl

You use a number plate as an indicator that someone is a bell end.

I find poor spelling is a better one.

The main reason that personalised plates are crap - the witnesses can remember them too easily , joke.

Personally I dont see the problem with them.
In my neck of the woods every second car has one & they tend to be a favourite 21st birthday present for most.

They do have the added bonus of standing out on friends cars making it easier to spot as you pass each other.

One thing I do have a problem with is the dvla charging a small fortune for some of them because they can clearly be used to spell out a name, & then having the rules stating that you're not allowed to space them out as such.

Not been an issue for me, but feel that it is a bit unfair to charge what they do for them.

I spotted "AR51 NAL" on a silver 118d at the weekend...

Now that is dedication to supporting a team of ball kicking types! Either that, or they like to "nail arses" perhaps?

I saw a Ferrari 355 at Goodwood once, not on display just in the car park/field. The plate said 4321 GO. QED private plates are a good thing.
The recession has obviously hit. Saw that exact same plate on a Clio a few weeks ago. eek
The 355 was an absolute piece of cr@p. The most unreliable heap that it's been my misfortune to own. The "Clio" was a Renault Clio V6 Renaultsport 255. Nothing to do with the recession, EVERYTHING to do with enjoyment / driver satisfaction. And once the DVLA have pulled their finger out the plate will be on a Gallardo. Like all the others, this will be my daily driver as a 55 mile commute isn't always practical in my Westfield Eleven.......

Maybe the reason some people use personalised plates to disguise the age of their cars, to stop morons judging their wealth and status by the vehicle they drive.

In fairness to JW911, I'm sure that he knew that it was a Vee (I suspect that he may be the same chap who posted the "spot" on a Porker forum). But it wouldn't scan so well and I'd probably have posted the same as him. The Fezza truly was awful. Fingers crossed with the Lambo......

As an aside (and without reading all 52 pages of this thread I shall assume that the general consensus is that I'm probably a colossal show-off with a tiny member, both of which are true biggrin ) here are some pictures of various of my daily drivers from the last few years. All have been taken from other web pages as I never seem to take photographs myself anymore........

My plate makes me smile and I know that it does the same for others too. That's good enough for me.
