Back in the day I can recall getting something from Halfords that you put in the water which made all the water run off, reducing the need to dry with a chamois leather and meaning you had no water marks.

Or maybe I am making it up and my mind has persuaded me it was true. It was a long time ago and it came in a blue bottle. I had a new black Renault 19 16 Valve at the time...

Any (decent) polish or wax will do that.
The stuff you are probably thinking if is Mer polish.

imho you'll get better results from a good wax.

The Poorboys black hole is a good shout, my cousin recently machine polished my black 1Series with this stuff and the results were in a different league to the mainstream stuff like Autoglym that I use normally, removed virtually all the light swirling and made the paint look a lot deeper.

Pretty much true from my experience. I wish I can park mine in a garage but it's just not wide enough. Poor boys works ok after a good polishing session.

I've recently bought this : http://www.t-cut.co.uk/index.cfm?page=161
Just tried this on a small panel and I must say I well impressed with the results! Can't even notice the micro scratches anymore! Not even Poor Boy's blackhole can cover them that well! Haven't really tried the sealant yet as ran out of time but so far I am well impressed.

Gtechniq C1 or similar might help with reducing the amount of swirl marks from washing.

I had 2 black cars and they are a bugger.

I now have white, and it's so easy to keep it looking clean! People often think white is a difficult colour to keep looking clean but not in my experience it isn't. I gave it a good going over today with iron-x, a layer of wax and it looks great and no swirls visible at all smile
