RE: Chris Harris video: Morgan vs Caterham

A very nice video!
It is a reminder that I must get out onto the Welsh B roads again - which is where I assume this was filmed. Is it the B4391 Bala to Llanfyllin stretch of road? It looks familiar from the rides journalists were given in the F-Type. It will be interesting to see what he makes of the latter.

My girlfriend works in car insurance with lots of classical and collectible cars, and we were having an argument the other day because she doesn't understand why people love cars so much. I'm going to force her to watch this. Brilliant. She did actually sms me a picture of a 1970's 7 the other day she saw parked outside her work saying "this is an Ali car yeah?" so I think she isn't a total loss...
Chris, (and Neil) - chaps, that was up there with the best videos you've ever done - in fact it may well be the best. The videography was superb, but never took anything away from the stars of the show - the cars. Chris, your passion for driving came across 100% and I found myself smiling with you - these are two cars that are the very essence of the thrill of driving.
I just wish I could afford to have both!

at 6ft4 am I ever likely to be able to fit in the drivers seat of one of these? I have passenger for v short periods in caterfield types and was extremely cramped
Various tall people fit into Caterhams - you can do things like spec a lowered floor in the SV chassis and have a bag-seat made set right back against the rear bulkhead. If you're seriously interested it's worth talking to Caterham themselves or finding your local Lotus 7 Club meet and chatting to some owners.Love the Caterham, looking forward to their mid engine coupe coming soon.
Must be the only one who really doesn't like the Morgan, just seems like a nostalgic novelty to my eyes, but then again, I am a purist when it comes to cars, so perhaps I am missing the point as its not a 'sports car'.
R500's are only 42k, hmmm.....

I don't regret buying the R500 at all, and wouldn't chop it in now, but I suspect I would have probably brought a Supersport R had I been in the market for one today, simply because it seems to hit the sweet spot on spec and price. Opportunities to use the R500 to its full extent on the road are limited.
Oh, who I am kidding, I probably would talk myself into the R500 again .

Test drove a M3W lasT year and loved it. Even though it was raining , you couldn't help but smile like a Cheshire cat
That said, in my garage I have a 10 year old Caterham R300, which I adore. You're video sums up the experience owning this type of car, perfectly
Everyone should own one of these cars at some point in their life. Life's too short without one !

Like Dave, I also drove the 3 wheeler last year and found it entertaining but wouldn't say the steering was light That said, in my garage I have a 10 year old Caterham R300, which I adore. You're video sums up the experience owning this type of car, perfectly

Absolutely love my Superlight, so much fun on the type of road Chris drove the new Supersport R and Morgan.
If you have the cash then a 7 is a must if you really enjoy driving.
Great video, brilliant 15mins of viewing, more please Chris
Well done Chris! The Morgan commentary has the driving of a 3 wheeler properly covered as does the look on your face whilst driving one. Entering the world of the 'Unsure' has never been seen as well on film/video.
Driving a 3-wheeler has a massive enjoyment factor and is indeed not for the shy and retiring. People will hang out of cars, film you on motorways as they pass you and then beg you to overtake as they film you even more!
As a once proud owner of a Grinnall Scorpion 3 I would like to see Chris get one of those in his hands. Now some may spit at the mid-mounted BMW engined motor bike based against the front mounted V-twin but because they are both 3 leggers they both lean to the motorbike for manufacturing compliance for the bits that hang off the outside (and indeed the inside). OK the highest power Grinnall has 100 Bhp more than the Morgan but it's about the driving experience and the grin.
The small car manufacturers should get some more 'air time', those car manufacturers that give you a kit to self-build or supply cars fully built are the boys that really do supply a 'pure' driving experience for relatively little money especially if you want Bhp/tonne as a cost equation. The Morgan, Grinnall and Caterham (and many others) are so low you can touch the road, your head is level with the wheel nuts of trucks and given the clog, there's not a lot that will keep up.
Are three wheels less stable than four.....hell yes but thats the fun of it to safely find the limits, have a blast and then hide behind dark glasses, goggles, flying helmet or full face Arai as you potter down the high street watching necks snap, jaws drop and fingers point as children ask Dad, 'what's that' and Dad doesn't know because he's never seen a live one before!

Couldn't agree more. And they're even good fun when it's tipping it down :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FjujrbjNps
