You lose more than that driving your specced 5 series out of the showroom, I think thats pretty good value actually and probably not representative of most ferrari owner's experience

Well if I was trying to fill my garage with appealing money makers for a while, I'd probably go for good example E30 M3 and a Sierra RS500. Depending on condition and mileage, that might just get rid of the money from the 599. If there was a bit left over, I'd buy a good example Racing Puma and stick hold of that for a few years too.

Or, take another calculated gamble (far less risky though, surely) and buy the M3 GTS in the recent spotted.

Personally, as has already been said, I think that £1k a month for a 599 is perfectly acceptable. But then I thought a 20 year old, low volume Jag was a good idea...

As for next, I'd say an older V12 Ferrari to see how much it's come on, perhaps an utterly gorgeous 456? Mmmmm... bow

Possibly being stupid here, but why wouldn't you try and sell it privately?
If the dealer only gave you a 6k hit then surely you'd have been able to make more than that back from a private seller?

Either way, I don't think 10k over 10 months is too bad for that car! My father in law lost that on his high spec'd E class over a year!

For the next long-termer, a Diablo of some description or at a slightly higher price, XJ220 please. That would make interesting reading and neither should lose value.

£10K doesn't sound too bad. I've thrown £4K at keeping an E39 on the road the last 6 months!

Next? Caterham obviously I would say that but you've already owned one.

964 RS?
Mercedes SLS AMG?
Maserati GranTurismo?

sit in a 991 and then move to a used 599 and the difference in leather, ambience and design will immediately make many people want the Ferrari more.

That does say much about Porsche owners.

How about an Aston, Jag, Bristol, Caterham, Noble next time Chris........

Maybe a Ruf 911? I'd like to hear Chris's opinion on one of those vs a 'normal' 911.

What next? Well I'd read up on some different cars and get what I liked the look of. There are plenty of resources for car info, the rest is down to personal taste.

I've just worked out the costs on my 997 GT3 (sold last month) and it was even more expensive! A 2008 model year with 17,780 miles on the clock, purchased from a Porsche Dealer in June 2012, sold privately at the end of April 2013.

Depreciation = £7,575
Tyres (set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cups) £1,280
Oil change service £300
Insurance £705
Tracker subscription £130
Car tax £470
Fuel £620
Total running costs £11,080

I only did 2,250 miles in it - so that's £4.92 per mile! eek

I am amazed that you bought a car from a dealer and sold it to a dealer and only suffered £6k loss.

In fact, I would like to call the custard test here. I would like to see a Ferrari bought and sold back to a dealer after ten months with this little depreciation on the paperwork.

It makes them just about the most economical sports car out there, either superb marketing from Ferrari or you truly are the worlds best car buyer.

I don't think 10k is too bad !!!!

I bought a new Lexus CT200h, had it for a year, did 28,000 miles and lost £11,000. It had to have 2 services and 2 tyres which added up to £500.

Hence the reason I bought 10 grands worth of Golf Diesel for work !!!
