I do not own a sensible car. A friend has gone travelling for 6 months, and before he left, he handed me the keys to his 170,000 mile 2002 Focus 1.6 Ghia, asking me to run it occasionally. He never cleans it, uses it to go shooting and cart dogs around.Working electrics and aircon, doesn't give a stuff if someone dents it.
And I've fallen in love with it. I drive it more than any of my other cars (admittedly it is winter)
I am now following this thread avidly.
Know what you mean; I bought a cheap old '01 Focus 1.8 estate when I was moving home, intending to sell it on once the job was done. And I've fallen in love with it. I drive it more than any of my other cars (admittedly it is winter)

Enjoyed it so much I kept it for two years.
Any of you fellow automotive scrimpers have experience of the Subaru Forester at this end of the market?
I think I'd like a turbo, but while there is not a single decent looking forced induction version within budget within 100 miles of me, there are plenty of normally aspirated version for around a grand knocking around.

Cheers. That isn't too far from me, about 45mins run over the Pennines. Not too sure about the interior, but it looks good in black.http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/186038/redu...

And definitely the most incongruous use of (hideous) wood trim I can ever recall seeing in a car... first impression is that it's been nailed on!

Seriously? On what level? A special sort of sky blue that should only be bought by people who would be better off using their bus pass, and for whom beige is "a bit too race-y".

Well the interior and exterior are spotless, it's in really good condition. And definitely the most incongruous use of (hideous) wood trim I can ever recall seeing in a car... first impression is that it's been nailed on!
And I actually quite like the wood trim

And yes, sticking a bit of wood on all that grey plastic doesn't suddenly transform it to executive status.
3-litre V6 though
Wasn't sure whether to keep this in the retro thread. No idea whether it will stay within budget though.

You are a picky lot!
For 1k that looks tremendous - impossibly clean in fact!
If it goes, stops, and most of the electrical stuff works, thats a bargain.
If i'd not bought a lower spec one recently, i'd be well up for that - V6 and electric everythingFor 1k that looks tremendous - impossibly clean in fact!

Only downside is no drinks holders in the front...prestige model indeed!
