Looking at the MOT history, you'll be wanting to check the airbag light is doing what it should - and have a good prod around the floorpan, which has been welded twice in recent years.low mileage, 1 enthusiastic owner

Lovely cars, but many are rotting under the skin now - yet the bodies always look perfect!

after scrapping my 307 I was sniffing about for a bargain motor. I just wanted something that would work when you turn the key and get me to the tip etc.
I spotted a Nissan almera on autotrader 10 mins from home. it looked very scabby indeed and has a scratch down one side and a dent in one of the bumpers.
however its only done 40k and is a 2003 car. I took it out for a spin with the dealer who had just taken it in as a part ex after having sold it to the previous lady owner 2 years before.
it all works well apart from the front passenger electric window that doesn't seem to work. hopefully its just a switch or a fuse but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. 4 new tyres. some service history. a few weeks of mot left and the only advisories on the last one was for the handbrake which needs adjusting and for the bumper which was a bit loose. a few cable ties has sorted the bumper out.
£300 quid later and I'm off(he wanted 400 for it originally) I've purchased a new battery off ebay for £25 as the current one, whilst it works, doesn't seem to be holding its charge as well as it should. hopefully i'll be able to sort the window out for 30 quid or whatever. I also found some cheap wheel trims off amazon for £5.00 including delivery.
I can probably get the dent and scratches sorted out to an acceptable cosmetic level at my local dodgy garage for between 100-150 quid (which wouldn't be a perfect job but probably ok so I don't wince when I look at it). or I might not bother and put fear into all those I part next to..
no doubt the thing will blow up in my face in the next few days. we shall see!

While I'm here, I spotted this for £400 - asking for offers. Looks pretty mint and looked after

Here's another cheapie off the same site... Looks like it's been well serviced and has 4 decent tyres, recent brakes... £499 offers invited http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/190788/1997...

1200 miles now in my £82 Puglet and it still works. Not only that, I'm getting around 68 mpg. I didn't know there were cars that could do that in real-world conditions. Peugeot 106 diesel - buy now while stocks last. As people have said about the closely related AX, the driving position is terrible, and the brakes aren't up to much (major brake fade in Milton Keynes last week, and I wasn't even in a hurry). But you could say the same about my bicycle, and that cost me more than £82.
Just bought one yesterday! I paid £500, but it's one of the last ones, 2003, no rust, new tires, cambelt, clutch and a full year MOT. I've done about 300 miles so far and the fuel gauge is indicating two thirds of a tank left. Noisy, but not as slow as I had thought it would be. The pedals are just weird, really close together and sandwiched in the left of the footwell, and the brakes are quite frankly crap.Edited by fooby on Sunday 24th July 17:08

Well done on that one! I was told years ago when I was looking for one (and couldn't find one for love nor money) by a car salesman that those were hard to sell secondhand as they didn't fit the traditional saab buyer want list I.e. being dogs knob red not really being a colour associated with the discrete saab brand. Hence it wasn't something he'd seek for his stock list Now they are history I wonder if all that's changed?
Anyone have first hand experience of them? I've never had a go in one. Would I be disappointed if I bought that for some cheap fun over the winter?
500 quid SportKa, anyone? With leather and in the right colour (the lovely metallic blue).
11 month MOT as well. (Although it failed on a *lot* in September...)
I might be needing a new fun shed shortly as my 306 GTi-6 just failed its MOT and I'm waiting on them pricing up the work... if it's too pricey then it's either this or a £250 Puma to replace it.
