Bb cars are always about luck. I bought my current car in a state for 700 quid. Spent about 1.5k over 1.5 years on it but have done 25k hassle free miles.

Some cars work out OK some not, at the end of the day these are old cars and st happens.

A happy ending...

Daughter's car bought:

Facelift 53 Civic in metallic blue with 80k and FSH by Honda for £880 - rear arches are a bit rusty and a couple of minor scuffs but drives very well

My daughter thinks we're mad to go through all this regularly.

Exactly.

My 9-5 aero was £500 with a years mot.

The diff whines, everything is a bit worn out, tyres and brakes are getting low but I've driven it for almost a year and if it breaks down before its mot in April I'll just scrap it.

Most importantly though all the heated seats work

Confirmed headgasket failure by AA.

It's at my mates garage and he will tell me what he thinks is best move, I suspect he can keep it on his site and therefore I will start breaking parts at £100 a go.

e.g. 4 wheels and tyres - contenential sport 5 / eagle f1 with 5mm all round £100
digital tv tuner £100
bluetooth £100

etc and get 10 parts sold thats £1,000

hope this works out, then over to scrappy.

Then get a banger with FSH.

My dad has just got a Passat estate to replace his old Zara diesel estate. I've been tasked with getting rid of the Zara but have no idea what it'll be worth.

M reg, 6 months MOT, tidy bodywork, no rust, passenger door doesn't open. What do we think? £300? £250?

First port would be to put it on Gumtree for £500, someone who in all likelihood will have no knowledge of cars will turn up and hand over the money.

Gumtree is A to B runaround central although prepare yourself for the inevitable timewasters who will want to swap for something.

Ah, the king of chassis flex.

We used to have a 4 door version and we once went to a car boot sale in it.

We had to park on a slope, and when we returned to the car, we opened the boot and put our purchases in the boot - but we couldn't close it because the chassis had flexed so badly.

Once we moved to a flat surface it was fine lol.

I had a cat D Corrado a while back, insurers didn't mind/load the premium.

I had 3 citroen AXs never noticed any chassis flex. They are simple cars make a great city car, but I wouldn't want to go over 40mph as they are basically death traps compared to modern cars in a crash.

Cheers. I sold a car via Gumtree/Facebook last summer. So many a-holes out there...

bootlid is just the lower directly fixed to the glass with no sides, innit?

I remember one of those Police Stop shows where a young lad had an AX with a smashed rear screen, the cop opened the boot and it just came away in his hand laugh
