Currently looking at estate slush boxed barges for the impending arrival and combined ferrying of it and the hound.
I have had my head turned by a Mk1 Volvo V70 2.4 petrol auto. I have read that the Mk2 V70/S80 auto boxes are a ticking timebomb. Does the same apply to the Mk1 V70 or is it a differnt box entirely? Also, is there anything Bork-tastic I should be looking for on the the Mk1 and walking away from?

Check that the ABS/Tracs is working - watch for the warning lights to come on when you turn the key, and go out a few seconds later.Last one I looked at had some strategically placed black tape on the dashboard.

Been messaging the seller back and forth today - he has the log book but no idea of the service history and no idea of when the cambelt was done. He says the previous owner worked at a garage though, which is a good sign, I hope.
What's likely to go pop on these things? I'll give it an oil change when I get it back to Newcastle just to be on the safe side - anything else I might need to attend to?Pumas are one of the best little cars ever made. Such a shame they rot badly.
Watch out for stuck heater control valves, resulting in either no heat or too much heat from the heater. The engines are generally pretty tough little units - cambelt is a Worthwhile precaution. Floating pulleys, so need locking tools to do properly.
Mafs and other electrical bits can cause problems, but they are generally cheap to work on and easy to fix.
Couple of good forums and an active FB group make cheap ownership a painless experience!
