I had a Accord V6 coop too. Mine had a OEM bodykit and upgraded (bad kerbing came free of charge) wheels and a mysteriously complex stereo. A bit too big and wafty for committed helmsmanship, but swift and comfortable on a motorway and not as thirsty as you might expect. I flogged it 18 months or so after buying it for what I paid for it. Decent car in my opinion, although pricey to sort if anything serious goes wrong. At that price you can't complain, really. Can you go wrong with an old petrol Avensis for less than £300? http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/toyo...
Bullst from the seller aside about legendary reliability, with an eye on the oil these will go on for a while yet, surely?

Bargain Basement Collective,
Currently looking at estate slush boxed barges for the impending arrival and combined ferrying of it and the hound.
I have had my head turned by a Mk1 Volvo V70 2.4 petrol auto. I have read that the Mk2 V70/S80 auto boxes are a ticking timebomb. Does the same apply to the Mk1 V70 or is it a differnt box entirely? Also, is there anything Bork-tastic I should be looking for on the the Mk1 and walking away from?
As always, many thanks in advance.

Check that the ABS/Tracs is working - watch for the warning lights to come on when you turn the key, and go out a few seconds later.Last one I looked at had some strategically placed black tape on the dashboard.

Very little to go wrong really.Bullst from the seller aside about legendary reliability, with an eye on the oil these will go on for a while yet, surely?
Top up the oil each week as it'll be doing about 1 litre to 500 miles by now and you're fine. The only concern is a burning oil in the cat. Cat gets clogged. Bork.

I have an offer you can refuse.
A free x reg Peugeot 106, to someone who will collect.
Mot till September, tax till February.
No scratch free panels, dents on some, etc...
Its got a really rubbish cat on it that needs to run really hot to get through mot for emissions (what could be sourced at a garage after the weld for the lambda connector rusted through and left a dangling lambda last year and a very loud car.)
Other than the emissions which could throw up something on the mot would recommend having a look and the rear brakes. Its due an oil change as I haven't gotten around to doing it.
Will come with Haynes manual.
Cambelt is due a change in approx 2 years.
Car is located in Farnborough with my brother as I'm leaving the country tomorrow. If no one wants/collects by the end of next weekend it'll visit the scrapyard.

'98 Ford Puma 1.7 in a fetching shade of green. 2 months T&T, no advisories on last MOT, nowt wrong with it other than a broken temperature gauge and a bit of paint peeling on the bonnet, looks very clean.
£300.
I'm picking it up Sunday.
Billy Bargain.
£225. Probably room for a little haggle. Run it until Christmas - chance an MOT if all is well - sell for more or rinse and repeat.

i had a bargain puma and still miss it, lovely car..just kept banging my head on door frame.
Really excited to go and pick mine up.Been messaging the seller back and forth today - he has the log book but no idea of the service history and no idea of when the cambelt was done. He says the previous owner worked at a garage though, which is a good sign, I hope.
What's likely to go pop on these things? I'll give it an oil change when I get it back to Newcastle just to be on the safe side - anything else I might need to attend to?

Watch out for stuck heater control valves, resulting in either no heat or too much heat from the heater. The engines are generally pretty tough little units - cambelt is a Worthwhile precaution. Floating pulleys, so need locking tools to do properly.
Mafs and other electrical bits can cause problems, but they are generally cheap to work on and easy to fix.
Couple of good forums and an active FB group make cheap ownership a painless experience!
