Interesting breakdown, is that 32MPG actually calculated or from the cars readout?
I think if my SAAB 9-3 turbo shed makes it through a year of ownership I will look at doing a similar breakdown but already you've beaten me on insurance
The car is near enough a base model so doesn't actually have an onboard computer, so it's measured manually throughout my ownership. Actual average according to fuelly is about 34odd, so I've left a bit of give in that figure.I think if my SAAB 9-3 turbo shed makes it through a year of ownership I will look at doing a similar breakdown but already you've beaten me on insurance

Actually you can get Teledials on a 156. They are 16 inch wheels, but to my eyes the Teledials on the advert are actually (correct) GTV 17s and as such are worth about 500 quid.
I had the 16's on my GTV with some spacers Edited by strangehighways on Thursday 11th September 10:50
ETA: Just checked Askmid and its not insured anymore Poor old P24 TFG.
Figured this is the best place for advice...!
I'm in the market for a BB diesel - clearly with diesel technology its a bloody minefield and potential for bork is high. I've got most of the bases covered with respect to what for look for, but how do you tell, indeed can you tell if a DMF is on it's way out? Anything I can do on a test drive? What should I be listening out for?
Thanks

Vibration through the peddle - luckily I felt it on my wife's Jag on the Test Drive - seller didn't baulk at the £750 discount I asked for to cover it so it was obvious he knew.I'm in the market for a BB diesel - clearly with diesel technology its a bloody minefield and potential for bork is high. 1.7 Cav TD with 53K nearly a year's MOT for £400 anyone? Would have been interested myself if this had appeared in a couple of month's time. Future classic and all that. 1.7TD engine is bombproof, other bits may not be

Ok beards - kind of a what car entry in the thread. Don't want to clog up GG with it own thread as it's a BB choice, so who better to ask.
So, three to choose from for winter duties. All diesel, all ~£700.
1997 Passat Tdi 110. Very good cosmetic condition, appealing colour, good inside, 12 months ticket, 4 months tax. But 236k on the clocks and due a cam belt which is a £300 job.
2000 Pug 306 2.0 hdi 90. Nice car, half leather, 11 months ticket, no tax, 116k. No idea about cam belt.
2001 Focus 1.8 tddi. Recession white, good clean car, cam chain, 12 months ticket.
All three have good tyres and tick my requirement boxes. Other than obviously buying on condition and service history, which one of the three is likely to be most pain free?
I used to have an Audi A4 110 and it was flawless up until I sold it at 193k so tempted but I've never ventured into the 200k+ world and it's a bit scary.
I'm led to believes the Ford tddi lump is pretty basic and thus generally reliable, but they eat DMFs for fun.
And I know sod all about Pugs other than the 2.0hdi has a reputation for going on forever?
So, if it was your cash, where would you throw it?
Eta - obviously I'm aware any car at this price has the ability to terminally st itself the minute I leave the forecourt...

Here's my purchase. A 9-5 2.2TiD. 190k on the clock, and a scuff on the fos wing, FSH, last serviced 3k ago. Drives well, a bit soggy and I think it needs an engine mount as there a faint clonk on gear change.
Seems a touch lethargic but I've come from a V6 petrol so I may need to recalibrate myself
Overall I'm pleased, it's clean, I think they still look good, and it's a comfy place to be. 10 months ticket and a bonus of tax till Jan.
We'll see how she fares me through the winter.
Eta - I know it's a long view pic but does anybody else know if they are Fox alloys? They look bloody good and if they're genuine that'd be a bonus! Also - the tyres are 225/50/17 at the rear and 225/45/17 on the front. Only a minor difference, would that explain the handling being a bit 'pointy'? It's very sharp and direct, I wonder in the wet if it may be a bit twitchy...

Liking this, if only for the novelty of twin wipers on the rear window

Bought this on Saturday. A twin for my bargain basement ST220 I purchased last year (which is running great, Nurburgring trip next weekend)! Just wanted it for the side skirt but its a bit too good to scrap. Not saying how much but it was cheap, very cheap.
Seller was selling as the car had no boost, found a split hose so £19 fix. Battery was flat but after a 20 minute charge from the Focus it seems to be working fine, left it running for an hour (had fuel in it too!) and it starts on its own battery now
Bodywork is tatty but for the price I paid it was a steal. Now to decide what to do with it...
