Why so cheap? It would break for far more than that!!
This really grates on me - it WOULD break for more than that if

you had storage for a slowly dismantling car that wasn't going to hassle anyone
you had the relevant environmental permits to de-pollute a car legally
you had a means of getting rid of whatever's left
you can put up with selling 2 things now and the rest in about 6 months time
etc etc etc

Why do people think it's so easy to break a car for parts at home? Why do so many people actually try to do so ignoring all of the above?
Wouldn't have to take many parts off it to break even. The cat is worth £200+ alone as the ones fitted to these are quite desirable for the metals inside. I do get your point though, I wouldn't break a car at home.
Exactly - sell the wheels, lights, a few panels and you've easilly got in excess of £300 without too much work. Then ring the local scrapper to collect when done.

I'm not advising breaking a perfectly good car, more just making the point that the seller was virtually giving it away!!

Fair enough, I've always had it in my head that clutches last 80-100k at the most, but then I've usually had city-based or ex-old-lady cars hehe

I wouldn't even worry too much about the cambelt, I'm reasonably sure that these are non interference.
I've read this a couple of times, which is good to know, one less thing to worry about! smile

To say it's "very tatty" is being generous IMHO.

Advert also states - "No tax or MOT" - I also note there are no pics of the interior.

160k miles too.

Is it really worth £495??

Due to various things I needed a small, economical and teliable run around on a ridiculous budget.
So to the Friday ad..

A phone call and a quick viewing later, behold..!

Yes, it's the cockroach like K11 Nissan Micra!
This particular model featuring a 1.0 twin cam 16v and a five speed gearbox!
£250 with a months MOT, it drives very well, needs lower arms (£50 for 2) and a patch on the outer drivers sill. (Sp?)
So far it's done nearly 500 miles without incident.
Will start a readers rides thread if anyone's interest?!

I really struggled to get rid of it, not having wheels being the stumbling block. Nobody uses a HIAB for collections any more.

After a LOT of buggering about I managed to find an independent bloke to bring some wheels from another scrapper to collect it, and I didn't get a penny for the shell.

It still wouldn't be fun to be stranded with a broken car, but it does offer a little peace of mind should you stretch the intervals a bit.

I know the 2.0 3FSE engine in the Picnic was non interference, make sure on the 1.8 though as it might not be the case.

I paid a bit more but you can get an EV1 Civic Type-S for shed money, would highly recommend them. (plain looking 5 door one built [very well!] in Swindon)

Sweet 2.0 160hp K20 lump with chain cam, hugely practical, tidy handling (independent rear suspension), half leather, air and a lovely snickety gear change coming out of the dash.

Poor turning circle and eps, but you can't have it all!

My Son starts a new job next week and needs a car that will last until Jan/Feb next year.

He will be driving between Huddersfield and just north of York so mainly motorway. He doesn't want a Corsa type car and the budget is only £600 and I'd rather like that the bank of M&D didn't need to help top up that budget!

Needs to be within reasonable distance of Huddersfield, Driffield, York or Leeds. But if you find a real stonking one further away I'd still be interested!

He's found a couple of cars that he likes the look off but hasn't sent me the links yet.

So over to you bargain barge hunters what can you find!

Edit to correct idiot spelling error!

For £600?

I think Xsara/306 is a good shout, petrols are robust as well as the diesels.

Mk1 Focus? Mk2 Mondeo, might even get a leggy Mk3 Mondeo.

You will get a decent 1.8 petrol mk3 mondeo for that money, that's what I would buy.
