Talking about airbags, the last car accident I was in was in 1999 in a 9 month old Range Rover. It was a bad accident (almost head on with a refrigerated lorry). The airbags didn't fire and we were all ok.
I do think that the fact that the airbags didn't deploy must have been a fault with the car, despite no warning light showing.

- of course it was, that's why it's a Cat D.
In fairness, at this end of the market, and if it is a recent total loss it is quite possible to write off a car with a scratch to a bumper. If you come across a £1000 car which was Cat D in 2014 you can be sure it was minor as (a) it is easy to write it off and (b) no one is going to spend any money fixing major damage.
Get my 4th BB car today: Volvo S60 2.4T. Not amusing as the two Golf Cabrios I've had but much quicker. From googling, there's some tuning potential.
Edit: Oh yeah, auto with tiptronic. Perfect for my commute.
Edit 2: It's got a 4 CD autochanger and a telephone you can text from. Looks like the original buyer had ticked a lot of optional extras. Crazy dog.

I remember watching a mythbusters a few years ago and they were testing a car that had of the first airbags, I think it was 40 years old or so....anyway, it worked perfectly.
I know they have a bbd but I doubt I'd be worried enough to do anything about it
I've had pretty big crashes in two cars that had out of date airbags - neither went off. Not sure if coincidence or not...I know they have a bbd but I doubt I'd be worried enough to do anything about it

You haven't commented on anything that has been suggested?
yeah showed to wife she did not like those onesany new bargain pointers...
Perhaps she's setting her expectations a little too high?
So, within thread budget I have the following as my shortlist for my new car.
BMW 520/525
Volvo S80
Saab 9-3 (either the Cavalier-based hatch or Vectra-based saloon)
Saab 9-5
Rover 75
Vauxhall Omega
Honda Accord
My criteria are auto, comfy and quiet on motorways, reasonable to drive, and well specced - leather, AC and cruise would be nice, and plenty electrically operated things. An electric sunroof would be a boon.
Anything else I should be looking at? I'm 27, had a licence for a year and a bit (I know, I know), and my insurance quotes haven't been *too* dreadful.

Why no volvo S60 on your list? Plenty of them around and not a humungtastic as an S80.

Plagiarism appears to be rife in car adverts - I just spotted these two - pretty obvious who's been copying whose homework here:

From my own experience.. BMW 520/525
Volvo S80
Saab 9-3 (either the Cavalier-based hatch or Vectra-based saloon)
Saab 9-5
Rover 75
Vauxhall Omega
Honda Accord

Vauxhall Omega's can be a ridiculous amount of car for the money and are a surprisingly good steer if looked after (especially in V6 giuse). Leather is nice but there's something to be said for heated velour on a cold morning
Saab 9-5's are great bang for your buck, I payed £700 for a MOT'd Aero HOT estate. It had all the toys, went like stink (250bhp) and wasn't even a wreck.. It was however deceptively fast, 100 felt like 60.. beware!

Do the S60 Auto boxes need to be avoid? GeordieInExile said:
