Pretty close to the "clever" end of the scale, hope I am as lucky!

I just thought if it all goes t@ts up at the mot i'd scrap it and wouldn't really have lost anything compared to financing something newer

When is the cut over date for ph1 to ph2?
Around 2000, from what I've briefly read. The 1.8 petrol (non GDi) increased in capacity to 1783cc from 1731 at change over.

Yes... I am waiting for the right monthly figure to come up on the "lease deals" thread, so I can suggest buying Jaguar a month instead!

Anyone going to buy that?

I really should take the risk on one of these old barges, but fear I don't know enough to buy soemthing like that.

I noticed the seat cover. I wonder if the seller works as a tech/mechanic.

It seems he's got two and he's keeping the good 'un and offloading the wrong 'un.

Well, that's how I'm reading it.

Cheshire cat time. £100 over thread budget, but very pleased with the result. 2002 Audi A3 1.8T Sport, 117k, cambelt done at 102k, full leather, no squeaks and rattles. So what's the catch? It is FILTHY and smells of smoke, but I'm convinced it'll clean up nicely. It also needs a thermostat and a bloody good service, but I'm absolutely chuffed to bits. £1100!

Sounds good - worth getting a cheap OBDC cable and a free copy of VAGcom or whatever it is called these days and get diagnosing using your laptop, or get a bluetooth obdc dongle and see what VW software there is for our phone - I have a great one for my BMW but used VAGcom for my 225 TT - you can also change some of the options like autolock etc if you do a little research.

Yep, way ahead of you on that. I had bought one for my previous car, but never used it. Just went for a scan and was delighted to find that a) the software works fine, and b) no fault codes on engine or ABS/ESP. Result! (There were a few to do with the central locking, but nothing to write home about).

Took it to the local "Polish with the polish" place today just as an opening gambit, then the OH spent most of the afternoon scrubbing the interior surfaces with generic cleaner. Giving the carpets a Vax tonight.

Better still, spoke to the previous owner (I bought it as an unwanted PX from a smalltime dealer) who still has the second key, so I'm hopefully picking that up tonight.

I'm really impressed with it. Really likeable little car.

Instantly drawn to this. It's done 150k but looks in decent shape, no rust on the arches.

If you ignore the dodgy passenger wing mirror
