Yup, he had it up for 1350 but then it was on ebay for less. I just offered a grand and he was fine to let it go. Aside form some paint bubble on the arches and a spot of rust on the tailgate it's in good nick - new tyres, alloys are clean and mechanically seems sound enough.

Plan is to run it for 6-12 months whilst I decide on a permanent dog wagon. Never bought a high mileage car before but it doesn't feel high mileage. Just hopefully no big shocks to come. Probably be worth a reasonable amount if it was broken up?

Nice. Minor rust doesn't bother me on such a cheap car. If it lasts 12 months then great - rust would take longer to be a problem.

Breaking it, you could probably get more than your money back but TBH I can't be arsed with that. Do you want a half destroyed car on your drive? What happens with the remaining bits of shell? The savings you make will probably push down property prices in the area.

I suppose some of the time off the road actually depends if it's a keeper and you do work to improve it (invest for the future!) or a genuine shed you're going to drive until it dies. I didn't necessarily need the wing replacing, the suspension refresh or the aircon condensor replacement all of which took the car out of action for a few days here and there.

My W124 has been brilliant-great engineering and totally reliable as a daily driver. I did get a good one though with relatively few miles and full history.

Amazingly comfortable and a lovely place to be. I need to sell mine as I purchased something else over the weekend but I will miss the thing. As focused as any car out there...

Haha exactly, I don['t think it would go down well and I am not mechanically minded AT ALL. Exactly as you say, will try and get 12 months out of it and see what occurs - my stepson was very approving, he's used to the coupe and the wife's hatchback, but even he said today it was an epic bit of car for the money - although he thinks the square wing mirrors are "well eighties" - I love them!

My £180 Felicia was actually £160 after some slight issues with the steering lock on the seller's driveway leading to it being removed by force - ask me if I care....

Couple of cable ties to secure the ignition switch to the immobiliser pick up ring and its pressed straight into service as a courtesy car - it's with a customer now!

Update on my S60, I'd come from an auto Jag to a manual and something wasnt quite right with the gear change on the Volvo, I didnt know if it was the spaceball thing or something else, and I had a bit of jerkiness at low revs. Bit of Google diagnosed a probable clutch position sensor fault, so a trip to Doves yesterday and £40 lighter, now got working cruise control, much better low revs driveability and feels like a bit more boost.

Only other purchase has been a set of cheap aero wipers from eBay at £5 posted, replacing what was probably legal to get through an MOT but created a smeary mess.

If it goes pop tomorrow I'd definitely take another on, maybe a V70 but I think I'd rather have the turbo engine even if it's low pressure

A 2.4T is definitely worth having. In normal traffic, it's handy to have the extra boost available eg joining a D/C. 0-60 isn't great (especially with the auto) but in-gear when you're already moving is handy.

A V70 is definitely near the top of the list while I'm looking for my bargain estate, but they are very popular and hold their value way better than the equivalent S60.

Also, I can't bring myself to have the beige leather interior, and most seem to have been spec'd that way.

I missed out on a really nice looking V70 2.4T a few days ago - I think it was a Sport model as the seats were half leather.

Ideally I want to spend £1000 - £1500 but will push my budget to £2500 if I really have to!

Most I've seen are hearing aid beige dash with beige seats. Yuk. Now creme with a dark dash is a completely different proposition, but it does not appear the average brand new Volvo purchaser had much taste!

When I was shopping for my V70 I noticed most had this beige seats with beige dash and door car combination that was really not pleasant at all. I managed to find one with Sissal (yellow-ish) seats and black dash and cappings and I really quite like it, as someone has said it makes the interior feel more spacious than coal bunker black. Mine is like this but full leather



It's not common though. I also noticed that the beige dash top reflects really badly in the windscreen.

Unless that has Huge flared arches on the front it has a bit more than front bumper damage. If it has sump damage you also have to wonder if the car stalled before all the oil poured out or if the hair dresser sat there with the engine running. I don't think there would be much of a profit in that by the time your done.

yea,was more damage,subframe bent and struts gone, bought to break for parts to be honest.wings were fine on the front,must be angle of picture.profit good so far.
