Can't be too many of these manual 3.0 estates around.
I never thought much of 406s, then was in one on a taxi for a night out, remember thinking how comfy the seats were!
Asked the driver for the mileage as I guessed in my head from the wear to be 80-100k, he said it was 300k!!!! Blimey !! his old 406 taxi got upto 500k, but the council made him stop taxiing it due to age!

Im a 406 fan but not buying another after ny recent hg failure.
Bidy is very solid no rust as galvanized. The droplinks are consumables and vrembo brakes expensive if fitted. The biggest problems are the electrics, namely bsi failures, weak indicator stalks but lots of spares and easy to replace diy.
Engines are generally solid and v6 is good, I think 2 lots of cats so 1 could be removed and a ssteel exhaust would free up noise.

Sounds great, but how can you do 63 mpg brim to brim at 60mpg, it is not logical? I think you mean 63 mpg on a run and average around xx mpg.
I assume so. Brim to brim on a cruise control 60mph trip could have turned out at 63mpg thoughI didn't repeat the experiment though, too boring!
That 150 CDTi lump is a decent engine if you get a reliable one.
Nice looking e38 728i for not much over thread budget.

If you treat it as a private sale and price accordingly then you won't be upset. [pragmatic view]http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

They don't have to offer warranty, but they can not evade the SOGA. [legal view]

I find the idea of an S60 or V70 T5 really appealing. I'm getting fed up of my Leon throwing tempremental wobbly every few months and quite fancy some massive bus to replace it with and free up a bit of money too.
How are the manual boxes? It the AWD worthwhile?
Well the 850 manual 5 spd box is strong, As it was Volvo's early days of FWD they allegedly got ZF to design it, Its humungous! I assume the Phase 2 cars use the same box although some are 6 speed? AWD should be avoided as its weak, The bevel drive or something similar that drives the rear axle prop fails, If you look at buying one make sure the rear prop is still on the car!How are the manual boxes? It the AWD worthwhile?

Fuel tanks rot away which is very expensive. Suspension takes a beating from the weight, and even in good condition you can get a shimmy at 60-70mph which can be extremely expensive to sort (by trial and error).http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Engines are pretty solid, gearboxes can be weak, rust can be an issue on the bodywork too.

I made the mistake of joining one of those Facebook cars for sale groups. It's entertaining enough to see some of the comments.
However this one might be of interest to someone on here who knows a thing, or two about Alfas.

Possibly a trader. Not sure. It's the only half decent thing I've seen on there.
Most of it is full of Astras and Mondeos with little, or no MOT, but with 'only a £30 fix required' jobs.
I browse every now and then. Although it doesn't seem worthwhile. Guy puts car up for £200, is offered £50.
