Nice looking e38 728i for not much over thread budget.

Worth a shot or horrendous money pit?
Btw are dealers allowed to offer it as sold as seen?
Fuel tanks rot away which is very expensive. Suspension takes a beating from the weight, and even in good condition you can get a shimmy at 60-70mph which can be extremely expensive to sort (by trial and error).http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Engines are pretty solid, gearboxes can be weak, rust can be an issue on the bodywork too.

There was a nice Almera GTi in the classifieds on here recently, might still be around.
Here's my contribution to the thread: Don't know if it will stay anywhere near the £500 starting bid currently on there, but a Nissan Silvia Turbo under 'people also viewed' for that Primera GT on the previous page.

That's lovely, but sadly (or fortuitously for my bank balance) no longer available. Eighties cool there. Here's my contribution to the thread: Don't know if it will stay anywhere near the £500 starting bid currently on there, but a Nissan Silvia Turbo under 'people also viewed' for that Primera GT on the previous page.

Nice looking Golf with a good engine, can't imagine it will go for more than a grand.
Is it bad that I think the alloys look quite good on it?!

Years MOT too, would imagine it is a safe bet!

Hands off. Want it.Edit - right up until the "LPG stopped working last week, could just be a filter" and "aircon needs a regas" and nothing in the advert about having had the cambelt done. Still, if it stays under a grand.....

I'm keeping an eye out for one. Where are you based? I'll post up if I see one near you. I've been reading up on them and I don't mind the earlier ones as I can insure on a classic policy for around £100. Most I've actually managed to see have rusty arches (questionable MOT), or 'full history' with no mention of the timing belt/pump change. Lovely to drive though.
MK4 quotes are around £800.

Is the LPG not running an issue? I wouldn't use the car enough to worry about it.

Mine might (genuine 'might' - not sure yet, love it too much etc.) be for sale soon. Mk4, full recent LPG and the belts done 18k ago. 180k but you'd never think. Anyway that's probably more than I should say - don't want to upset mods!I'm keeping an eye out for one. Where are you based? I'll post up if I see one near you. For me, the main disadvantages are endlessly pushing on a button as the tank slowly fills up, and queueing forever whilst the person who has parked in the only LPG pump space buys groceries, goes to the loo and generally takes hours to return to their car before they move it and you can fill up. All of which is a small price to pay for 280 miles of V8 loveliness for £30 a pop....

LPG looks a very attractive option, I keep having naughty thoughts about Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 I6 / 4.7 V8s on LPG.
Are there really any drawbacks?
It burns hotter so your cooling system needs to be up to spec. You particularly notice if you're towing of course. The fuel contains less energy per unit mass so you get slightly lower power usually, and lower economy in absolute litres/100km or MPG.Are there really any drawbacks?
THe fuel is, however, more resistant to detonation so on any sort of car where you can set the timing you can advance it a little and get some power back.
The biggest downside is the loss of space to the tank, the lower range and additional complexity of course. It also seems that there are a lot of cowboy fitters.
