I notice on the Jeep that pictures are shown of what looks like an LPG conversion, but no mention of it in the advert.

Clearly it doesn't work.

Yup, they're not called "2 point slow" for nothing.
A friend of mine had one as a cheap runaround for a while, it really wasn't that bad.

Not fast by any stretch, but felt nice and "torquey" for normal driving. Obviously as soon as you pushed it, it didn't do anything.

Did about 35 to the gallon which isn't awful. It was on 180k miles and felt surprisingly fresh, interior hardly worn and the engine didn't use any oil or water. Quite refined and comfy on long trips too.

If all you want is a cheap reliable runabout, you could do far worse.

I had an Octavia with the 2.0 engine, and as above, it was a nice torquey engine which suited the car well.

But it was only 115bhp, so you couldn't expect fireworks when burying your foot to the floor.

But for everyday driving, the torque was nice, and you could get 'up to speed' surprisingly quick.

By way of comparison, I ran an Octavia 1.8T at the same time (which I still have) and for out and out acceleration the 1.8T beats the 2.0 hands down, but for 'driveability' (e.g. out of corners, pulling away from standstill etc.) the 2.0 was much sharper.

A nice Alfa 156 1.9 JTD 150 that the seller needs gone in a hurry, anyone? £850 ono for a facelifted model with this engine, a recent new clutch, and in top spec trim seems a bargain. Seller will MOT it for you, too.

eBay ad

Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 JTD 16V M-JET TI 150BHP

Top of the range diesel Alfa 156 in beige, selling due to an upgrade and a move to Ireland (ROI).

I'm in Ireland working till Thursday 29th October, so will be bringing it over to the UK on the ferry in the evening for the MOT in the morning. The car will be sold with 12 months MOT from 30/10/2015.

Owned since June 2012 and done 32K in total. Maintained mechanically regardless of cost, but the bodywork has been a little neglected as stated and as per the photos. Receipts for EGR valve, turbo intercooler hose, wheel bearing, service, tyres, abs sensor, rear caliper, clutch (131K) and timing belt/ water pump (130K).

Loads of fun to drive, the seats are comfy and electrically altered, the climate control is decent - like a fridge in the summer and quickly heated/ demisted with A/C in the winter. The stereo is great and the car returns in the region of 57.7 MPG overall (the average was taken over the last 1700 miles I've done).

EDIT:- My word, it's already been sold! It was only listed this morning.

Yeah I contacted that Honda seller last night. Only issue is when cold clunky change from 1st to 2nd gear. Fine when warm. The rest of it looks great. Lots of decent pics. No rust only tiny bit on one rear arch. I think it's a bargain.

My wife vetoed me buying it.

Oh
To be fair, if you can do most of the work yourself it's a bargain, even at local garage rates it's not too horrible. One bit of welding isn't too bad on a car this old and tyres are consumables so overall I don't think it's horrible for a 14 year old Italian car.

The location of the rot sounds pretty ominous though, and it's clear from the ad he's realised it's a money pit and is trying to fob it off on someone else

Oh, agreed, they're not bad engines in any way (I've had two as runarounds). It was more the cheek of putting them in a car with "GTI" on the back.

I have one of these in black, on a 52 plate. It's an ex police car.

It goes pretty well (assuredly quicker than a Golf GTi my o/h used to have, with the same engine...).

But the suspension is like jelly lol, although that makes for a comfortable ride.

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to wait anywhere without someone asking if you're the taxi they ordered.

The 2.0 8v was brought back in to use on the mk4 because too many GTI owners were not capable of using revs.

VW released the mk4 1.8 20v NA GTI with 125hp an 130pound torque and capable of 0-60 in 9.6 seconds. It produced max torque at around 3600rpm.

The 2.0 8v is 115hp an 130pound torque but makes peak torque at 2400rpm giving the impression of better performance even though it took a further 0.6 seconds to get to 60 and had a slower top speed.

I own a 2004 Octavia TDI 130 lol, But they are good cars and I have CClimates on it as well and it really does handle the road very well in the wet.

The car has it faults but they are a solid mile cruncher and you can park it anywhere without worry.

On the odd occasion I would pick my missus up on a night out in town in my MK1 TT I would get people asking if I was their taxi......

Should be getting my MX5 back fairly soon, at last.

On a totally unrelated note, if I happened to know someone selling an 02 plate A3 1.8T Sport in silver, 125k, MOT until February, with leather, at roughly thread money, would there be any interest?

Purely hypothetical obviously, but if such a mythical beast existed, it'd probably be just north of Reading.
Goodness, I can't believe my luck, but such a creature has indeed surfaced.

I expect the owner would be more than prepared to listen to reasonable offers from Threadists. Cough.
