A Volvo V40 has caught my eye. It's a 2003 2.0t, looks like the lux spec. Only thing is it's an auto and I've irrationally avoided Volvo autos due to the flare issue in older models. Will this car have one of those boxes, or is that issue limited to S60s and V70s?
Any other thoughts on the V40 2.0t? It's the lpt version, about 170bhp.
I've had a 2002 V40 2.0t for the last 7 years or so - manual though. I've taken it from just over 100,000 to 225,000 with no major issues over regular servicing (2 cambelts). A few minor problems have come up like fuel pressure regulator, binding caliper, corroded brake lines, broken springs, corroded shocks, a couple of little electrical gremlins starting to appear, but it's been a great car overall - still going strong.

I get around 34mpg doing mostly motorway miles.

Tim.

Username and zero feedback don't inspire confidence.

Nor does the cut and paste wording.

Thanks for the info.
Picked up a V70 2.4T manual yesterday - over thread budget though so won't show it off here smile

Just bought this today for my wife to learn to drive in. £200. No MOT and needs a couple of types but looks great. Feeling really chuffed with that as I never seem to get a bargain!

Hopefully does just need tyres - it's strong money for a 206 with no test in my opinion....

Does look tidy though

See how much it costs to get through the MOT then decide if it's still a bargain!

I suppose that's why it was cheap. I see a rust free car with good engine and gearbox the rest (suspension, brakes, tyres) are cheap to replace consumables. Also where I live, the Scottish Borders there's not the choice you may have in a greater populated area.

Parts for those are so cheap it comical. Disks, pads and two lower arms for less than £150. Easy enough to to work on too. Any working car for less than £200 is a win tbh thumbup

lots of cars that would have been scrapped are being sold with no MOT, mate got offered £2 for a 57 plate megane.

the only thing that worries me about 206s would be the rear beam and rear electrics, seen many with the brake lights constantly on.

Two tyres, a drop link, front discs and a couple of brake pipes. Pretty happy with that.

This is why I can't buy old cars, people like you steal all the good luck! If that was me it would need a new gearbox, engine, body and flux capacitor. Then the police would stop me and tell me it's stolen and I'm going to jail.

I know of an Alfa Romeo 147 1.6 Twin Spark with no MOT that the guy will take £100 for. He told me it needs two new tyres and a patch of welding. He will do the welding for not much (less than £100 certainly).

Whether it would fail on other things too I can't say.
