We had some of those Lagunas on our company fleet when they were new - they were amazingly unreliable brand new that I can not possibly imagine how they are now.
Maybe by now everything that could possibly break has been replaced hehe

But the broken bits didn't last long until they failed again!

laugh Good point, although TBH I'd have the BX that was posted earlier over the Laguna any day of the week...

Could well be urban legend, but did Renault stop taking these as trade ins at one point they were so bad?

I'm sure I heard that somewhere. And if it's on the Internet, it must be true hehe

Haha I think the reputation of the Laguna II was so bad that it ruined the chance of the Laguna III which was apparently half decent.

Too few of them around to tell though hehe

Just bought another shed, as my daughter is returning from 6 months in Thailand and wants her car back.

Fortuitously, a friend popped round to ask if I knew anyone wanting a cheap car, as her elderly father was giving up driving, and had to surrender possession of his pride and joy.

It's a Focus, polished weekly, wash leathered every damp morning, just like my dad used to keep his motor cars.

It's got a service folder like a Bible, detailing every thing it has had done.....

MOT'd and serviced the day before I collected it, at 40,000 miles, in it's 12 years. Not exciting, but solid reliable shedding for the future !

Also, this is a facelift which I think were meant to have a lot of the issues sorted out, and it has a ZF autobox.

Does seem astounding value, unless its shiny exterior is hiding something that's very broken!

They never made a particularly dull driving focus, even the worst is capable of raising a smile on a country lane smile

It
s a lowly 1.6LX, ad has probably not been above 50mph in its entire life. Till I spanked it down to Luton airport and back last week for a business trip :-)

I had a mk2 laguna on an 03 plate 1.9 dci 120bhp. Had it 3 and bit years. 52k miles - 104k miles

fronts springs were made of chocolate, replaced 2 springs
rear lights were st, ended up looking like a disco, went to a local scrappy who had lots of them, but i kid you not 5 of them had cut rear looms or additional relays spliced into them, i ended up running wires to ensure it could pass an MOT.
Rear suspension bushes cracked too
in the end the turbo went cause the oil change interval was 18k miles which i think the internet and certainly the renault forums deemed well too long.

but it was ok, comfy, didn't spit too many big bills, clutch was slipping like mad at the end.and it did 50+mpg, but it was boring. Would not buy again.

I had a Focus 1.8TDdi Zetac from brand new as a company car in 2000 - it was a good car but the engine was a bit noisy and sluggish - I had a 1.6 Zetec as a hire car a few times - I thought they were a great package, and the handling was a lot more exciting than many cars - a lot of fun to drive as fast as possible with a nice revy engine.

Obviously it might not be quite as sharp after 14 years,...

Hideous hateful thing but reliabke shedding, and at £495 offers welcome it's well worth a go!

What a cracker! And the colour makes it timeless. Your neighbours will think you've spent five times that.

I think an S-Type was the first car in the first volume of this thread; I still rate them as one of the best ways to buy a grand's worth of motoring.

That Vectra is in fantastic condition, seems to be a steal at that price.

Were they really that bad? Had a couple of MK4 Astras and they drove very well.

They weren't good. One of the rare instances when an all-new car is worse than the model it replaces. The last of the Cavaliers were so much better than the first of the Vectras.

They weren't great from my limited experience but at under 500 quid I'd happily rag it to work and back until it died of uneconomical to repair death, which I suspect would be longer than you might imagine. Despite being dull, petrol vauxhalls are pretty reliable.

That looks absolutely brilliant for under £500. MOT history looks good as well.
