Alas the time has come to move the Passat along. I've placed a deposit on some Korean stbox so the VW has to go. Any ideas on how I value it?
Passat B5 diesel estate with almost 12 months ticket? £500Passat B5 diesel estate with 250k and needing tyres, a service + belts? £400
I have one with 230k and 2months MOT and it's in a horrific state. Not all the doors open, some windows work, wrong colour front wing. I reckon I'd get £200

My Aero has done 160k miles and is still perfectly usable (and still shocks people in the 20mph to 80+mph range) I've done the clutch, lower arms, gearbox torque arm bushes and cleaned it. In 3.5k miles it's done 28mpg too. I payed £500 for my one, it'd be interesting to compare fast Swedish sheds

Plan is get the air con and window working and keep my clio cup incase the Saab is a total heap, then sell the cup in a couple of months.

It's had all the vacuum lines done, boost valve looks new ish and it's got the larger diesel air intake snorkel. The way it goes I'd honestly be shocked if it hasn't been mapped!?
I reckon... that 'reasonable offer' equals 'thread budget'.
What a lovely way to spend a grand.

So here we go.
The £500 Saab aero made the trip from Plymouth to Somerset fine.
It does have 11 months mot but does need a few bits doing.
1 sump drop and clean strainer
2 oil change
3 new oil switch as its leaking
4 replace front disks
Exhaust is rusty but not blowing and I think a wheel bearing is whining.
The car has no blue smoke, it pulled up hill in 5th to 90 with no dramas, cruise control works, heated seats work.

If I wasn't waiting for my new Passat Alltrack to turn up, I would have been on my way already. Still not sure I am going to be happy with a brand new diesel estate, despite it being a bargain.Bargain cars have been good to me.
£500 saab 9-5 aero update.
So today the alarms being going off because the boot keeps locking /unlocking and the engine management lights come on.
It goes to the local saab indy to get the alarm sorted or disconnected , sump dropped and strainer cleaned out, oil change and maybe the breather pipes replaced as i don't think there the updated pcv kit.
Also the low oil light's flickered on for a second a couple of times today for like just a second, i've checked the oil level and it's at max so maybe linked to the oil switch?

I was tempted to go look at that 9-5 myself as im local and it looks quite tidy (more so than the two aeros I have already!). The alarm going off randomly can be the alarms battery pack failing. They can be sorted with new battery packs (sealed units so a bit of butchery required) or removed. Mine burns a bit of oil so every now and then if I havnt checked oil level for a while the low level light flicks on if going round a tight bend. If you have an android phone, the torque pro app for a couple quid and a ebay bluetooth obd adapter will let you read codes etc for engine management light. My eml had been on since I bought it a couple years ago, I just used to turn it off myself every now and then as it was just a minor sensor but it seems to have turned itself off recently! Overall there great cars for the price, cant think of anything else sub £1K that has the same mix of power, practicality, and running cost!

I've just won a auction on the bay for:

a years mot , air con and drivers front window doesn't work.
"Air Con just needs a regas innit"saab 9-5 aero , 2002, 157k for £510 !

It works, you can adjust where the air comes out , the speed of the air it's just not very cold.
On a £500 car i'm not really that fussed unless there's a cheap fix.
