That x type looks the dogs bks. I'd really love to get one, preferably the 2L diesel because I understand it doesn't have a DPF whilst some of the later 2.2L engines do.

The only problem that I have is after running a few insurance quotes the insurance will be well over 800 quid and closer to 900 in some instances. That's just for me (31, solicitor, parked on street, e11 postcode, 2 years ncb, licence since 2002). That would possibly be bearable, but my wife (32,teacher) is about to learn to drive and I assume that she would, as a newly qualified driver, be nigh on uninsurable on a jag like that (or we are talking about paying a 2k odd premium to add her as a driver )

I'll have to look into it but I'm not too hopeful.

This looks good too, and reasonable mot history too

Terrible news - the cylinder head gasket went on the £600 Skoda I bought in May.
Does anyone want it? It's free if you're going to save the car and you can pick it up early this week.
Car is near Leighton Buzzard and I'm in Glasgow hence the freeness. If I can't find a good home it goes on the bay or will be consigned to the scrappies

That sounds incredibly expensive for insurance. I would've thought I'm higher risk than you and I'd pay nothing like that amount.

Where is E11? Basra?

Leytonstone, East London. So pretty much biggrin

That X-Type is a monster deal for someone. Not for me though, cream leather is a no-no frown

Leytonstone and our posh neighbour Wanstead

I truly believe that it must be one of the worst insurance postcodes in London

I'm paying 500 quid to insure a 2003 Nissan almera with a mighty 1500 cc engine worth all of 300 quid.

I like living here but by Christ the insurance situation is depressing.

Saw that and thought it looked good. Surprised there's no bids as 2.3s seem to make good money even in rough condition these days. Is a 2.0t really that much of a downgrade?
Look at the front end panel / lights fit. That can't be right!

Hi guys,

So I've sold my lovely fully loaded CLK frown now I did earlier consider getting a V8 and upsizing however living in London and doing minimal mileage I'm thinking a shed / barge is the way to go.

I've budgeted £1,000 and am happy to look at anything from Merc, BMW, Volvo, etc. No Vauxhall or VW stuff, but otherwise open to fun and interesting cars like Alfas.

Not going to set the world alight, but it's quite a funky little car.
Oh wow, that's the same as my old one that was my first "quick" car when I was 21. Goes off to see if R657 TYB is still around as well. Wish I'd spottedthe ad sooner. I'd have most likely bought that.

Me me me! I love these old L&Ks with the tan interior. I got a gnat's whisker from buying a eucalyptus green one a few years ago but it had clearly had quite a hefty accident and drove like crap.

I've PM'd you my number if its still available. smile

Following the sale of my W209 CLK, I've decided to give bargain basement motoring a try (I must be mad)

Something interesting. Thinking Alfa, older Merc?

Otherwise maybe a E46? Or are they all st for 1K?

Don't really want Japanese car's (don't like the interior) or French cars.

Volvo or Saab is cool.

No estates.

Having trawled eBay - I'm finding nothing, Is there a trick to this?

The only trick is to search under £1k (or whatever your budget is) and see what comes up - don't limit your search.

Autotrader can be pretty good as it's cheap to advertise sub £1k cars on there.

As can Gumtree and if you can be bothered - Facebook groups.
