Best of the Bargain Basement Vol. 2

Picked this up a few weeks ago after my previous mint 9-3 Aero was written off due to secondary fire damage from an adjacent car.
It has full service history up until last MOT which is due again in April '17. It seems to have been well looked after mechanically as looking through MOT history it has a recent new caliper, new exhaust etc. all tying up with any advisories or fails. It also comes with 4 Continental Sport Contact 5 tyres on still with plenty of life and a brand new Bridgestone Potenza in the boot. It also came with both rubber mats and felt mats too.
It has done 138k and is in very good nick externally with only a little bubbling on the rear arches and alloys. Everything works as it should although the AC, working, is not quite as cold as I usually like.
On test drive I was able to knock a little off the price due to the back end being a little unstable on road bumps (specifically the driver side) however when I took wheels off after purchase to adjust handbrake it was very easy to see why it was a little squirelly. Thankfully it was only the OSR anti-rollbar bush that was goosed so I will replace both of them next week with new Powerflex ones.
The general upkeep and little things like good matching tyres, new exhaust etc. made it an easy enough decision to buy it. The evidence of being well looked after swayed me tbh although the price I got it at definitely helped.
The inside was dirty and having lived its life in Aberdeen-shire, first as a lease car(3 years) then it was owned by the last owner since 2010. From the colour of the inside I would guess the previous owner was a farmer given the dirt and grass everywhere. After cleaning it is now immaculate inside, no marks, scrapes or damage to trim or seats.
I have to say I definitely think I got a very good replacement and being full time at university the money I paid was a massive bonus. The bargain basement market of used cars in this country is amazing, so many great or interesting cars for the money. This bargain being had for the grand total of £870!!!

A comfortable, refined, leathery, sub 7 second (allegedly), 30mpg on a run (even more allegedly), 3 litre V6 for...... £490

If you didn't do too many miles a year and didn't care about image, you could just keep buying a new one when the old one broke!

However, after checking the MOT history, I'd be worried about falling through the floor of that thing.

It's all a bit 'Thai hooker'. In that you might well get a nasty surprise when you pull the skirts off.
Might go & poke around this one tomorrow

Anything inparticular I should look for?

that looks way too expensive. I've seen 2.0 16v ones on eBay, with half the mileage for £500. I would look elsewhere.http://www.ggacarsales.co.uk/used-cars/renault-meg...

I want an E46 ci for under 1k like that SOTW 330ci!!
They simply don't exist.
A cheap Merc or BMW please!! (1k max)
As I posted a week or so ago on this thread, my FIL bought a 320Ci for £850 - not as fast and unfortunately not much more economical than a 330Ci, but a lot of nice car for the money - still sounds lovely. They simply don't exist.

They are about if you put the effort in and are not too fussy about colour, engine etc

I shall keep my eyes peeled for a 330.
I did consider an RX8 for a moment, but that'll be misery.
I'll go for a high mile but clean E46. Never seen these cheap 2006-07 Saabs as mentioned above. Plus an E46 is an itch I want to scratch.
How about an E46 325ti Sport? There is a useful thread running on them - I had one years ago and it was a good car - seems less likely to rust than a Ci too.I did consider an RX8 for a moment, but that'll be misery.
