Thanks chaps. Really appreciated.

That's bubbling from underneath it seems. I did wonder why it was still for sale, for someone with the tools/skills, or access to mates rates that car would be ideal.

I expect it's sooner, rather than later it will fail an MOT for rust.
It's a cheap car, some way off being an MOT failure (for that rust). Buy it, run it, ditch it in due course. At this price point, appearance is irrelevant.

Trawling Scumtree for a winter shed and spotted this, albeit it's sadly at the wrong end of the country for me; manual(!) E36 328i on 116k, which looks relatively unmolested, and allegedly only one owner. Got to be a unicorn if it's true! thumbup

If that's as rust free and genuine as it looks, that's a bargain for someone. The MOT history doesn't hint at anything bad either... just an advisory this year for a rear tyre, and nothing at all for the previous couple of years.
That doesn't look too bad.
Not many unmolested ones left.

You may want to check if it has a Nikasil block. This vintage was plagued with problems, but it might have been sorted early in its life.

Would have gone by now if it was going to go, surely?

The snotvan (aka my missus's VW) has had way worse rust than that for 6 years now, ever since she drove over my ladder in the driveway. I asked the MOT tester at what point it would become a fail last week, and he reckons I've got at least three years of procrastination left to run. That BMW is nothing.

I always google the phone number - which shows he is a dealer - which TBH I expected from the ad and wouldn't put me off.

However I wouldn't travel too far as it does look cheap and he's a dealer, so there's probably a reason it's cheap.

All the numbers in the advert check out - and point to the dealer selling it - Bamber Bridge Motor Company.

It's not something they'd usually sell - and as an 11 year old Saab with lots of miles on it, it's worth next to nothing.

Probably just wants it off the forecourt without paying auction fees. Bet it cost nothing to buy in when offset against the car they sold.

It is also a TiD. Therefore, may have any one of the common faults with these and is less desirable than a TTiD for that reason.

That and, as said, it is 11 years old and from a "dead" manufacturer so widespread appeal is low.

I love Saabs but would never buy a TiD.

Parabola - if that's got a decent MOT, buy it.

For the price of a weekend away, you'll have a decent wagon for shifting stuff. At this price point, don't linger.

Fair point. Can't stop thinking about that E36 now though.

The Volvo is only 7 miles from my house, the BMW 200 miles!

It has been scientifically proven that the quality of old cars increases in proportion to the distance travelled.

True, but you forgot the cost/distance integer. Less than a grand, it's always local. Always.

This advert is amazing. The three photos are superb.
