Seeing that £500 MX5 makes me wonder what the hell to do with my own MX5... it's not got a lot going for it, Jap import V-Spec, slashed roof, ripped drivers seat, worn carpets and suspension that really need replacing. Paintwork not great and rust appearing on the drivers side sill. Quite high mileage (around 150k I think) and little service history.

Can't imagine I'd get more than a few hundred if I was lucky. Should I just stick it on eBay and hope for the best or break it? Tempted just to give it to a made to restore...
I'm in the market for one at the moment, and judging by what some people are asking that'll be about £1500. Chancing s.

Well if you want one at the lower end of the market that would do as a daily run around but also as a running project, let me know! There's nothing wrong with it in that I was using it daily till I bought my Alfa a couple of months ago, but it's just tired.

Given the rep of elderly Binis for trouble, anyone feeling brave with this "doesn't turn over after battery swap" job? :P

What might be wrong with it then?

I was really, really lucky. At any other time this car would have fetched much more, the roof alone must be worth a few quid, it is unmarked in and out bar one little chip which I can repair with ease. I reckon most any MX5 with 12 months ticket is a min £1000.00 esp after Easter when the weather builds up towards summer.
Plus I have not been underneath fully yet....

I saw that one as well. Almost certainly more to it than they're letting on, I think.

I would guess an immobiliser fault, although it would depend on how the immobiliser functions of course! You'd have to put it on DIS to see what the real faults were of course.

Are you sure? Have another look: they have a spare-wheel well big enough to carry a full size wheel and tyre, but they are equipped with a slim space-saver that sits in the bottom with a plastic cover over it.
Thank you! Just checked properly - there is a spare under there! Well happy!

looking for something for my mum, under 500 quid, cheap to run, reliable 30mpg+ and used for shorter journeys, any ideas.

At that price it's a case of trawling through the ads and seeing what comes up rather than aiming for a specific model.

all bases are covered, Facebook, Gumtree, Ebay, forums etc, but seems a dearth of suitable cars presently.
