Considering I recently bought a 3.0 auto which is newer, a lot less miles, longer MOT and better condition for a whole £1 more (as discussed in this thread) I think he'll be lucky to get that price. Or I was lucky to get mine for £460.
What is the mpg like on the auto? smile
Checked it twice on full-to-empty-to-full on mix of fast A roads, windy B roads and a bit of around town and both times it gave 27mpg ish.

If we can go back a few "cough" years

Dad bought a Triumph Pi 2500 for £35 !

It had been parked up in a garage for 5+ years after getting a flat tyre - we fitted the spare, added fresh petrol and a battery and it started and we drove it home to the utter amazement of the seller.

It was intended to be my first car but the insurance ruled that out.

Sold it within weeks for £750 - percentage wise it's probably the best deal Dad ever did.

Any interest in a Fiesta 1.1 Kent, 1995 N plate, less than 60k on the clock? My father in law is taking the shock decision to actually sell a car which I don't think has ever happened before (he's got at least seven, and a couple of tractors, all mid-90s tat but he seems to like them!) since he just doesn't use it.

If anyone's interested I'll get some pics. Not that this is an advert or anything because that would be against the rules.
In a similar 'this is definitely not an advert' vein, my brother in law is selling his 53 plate Mondeo 2.0 Zetec (automatic). Good points - looks clean. Bad points - MOT due next month, and apparently needs a front wheel bearing. Considerably less than half thread budget would secure it...

I think it's great, but having owned one previously, the 20mpg puts me off!

You bd.

Mind you, I'm not sure I'd bother doing too much doing stuff on a £500 car.

Just because he bought it for £500 doesn't mean that's what it's really worth!

Can we have a moan about the utter lying tw@ts selling bargain cars to offset the happy stories ?

Just back from seeing a Corolla for my daughter - waste of a morning - terrible blistering respray over the bumper, door, wing, rust on the other wing.

This was from a Trader who I specifically asked to walk around the car whilst I was on the phone and describe it because I'd had my time wasted yesterday by a Trader lying about a cambelt change - that hadn't been done.

It's no £500 bargain MX5 but I really do enjoy taking it out for a drive. The half empty Hydragas suspension really firms things up so corners and roundabouts are a giggle. It's been a while since I've driven anything so interesting TBH.

Funnily enough I looked at £500 MG TF yesterday... all was good, nice bodywork, tidy interior, lots of service receipts, 12 months MOT, started and ran well, new tyres etc then I opened the coolant cap.....Brown sludge, no coolant just brown sludge everywhere weeping

Bargain hunting has its good and bad days...

Well, I've seen less mess from HGF before that ended in a warped head...

But if you're feeling brave he dropped his price down to £350!

Trouble is you'd spend more on parts fixing it than it'd then be worth. You struggle to give the damn things away at the best of times.

Drive it until it goes bang then bin it. Might be a fun couple of months.

Clearly i'm rubbish at this game.

Having sold my CLK for a good sum I decided it would be nice to get a cheaper less pristine car and have no worries about anything (parking back of supermarket, away from crap cars etc) keeping it mint was getting tiring.

So i purchase a 330Ci (damn you SOTW for putting that idea in my head)

Set a budget of £1000 - broke that first and then spent 1400 on a 05 plate car with 169K, did 120K miles in first 4 years. and it had the HG done too*

I done 1,000 miles since purchase, last night overheated (suspect Water Pump), *** If you do the HG you overhaul the entire cooling system on these chocolate cooled E46 pieces of st.

Anyway, thats my love affair with BMW, short and st.

I need to find a nice clean car next time. Like someone who got a late Saab for <1k and the MX5 above,

Car wont start now so suspect its destined for bin, I'll strip the TV, Digital TV, NAV and Bluetooth - rest can get scrapped.

i've spent £200 on tyres, and pads and all filters, glad nothing else spent on.

Think I want a Merc again.
