If you are really ARE set on a MK1..

16,200 miles Megane Monaco
2000 (W)
Manual

Should serve you well for the extra dosh, no worries about binning it because you'll get £750 back for it.

I'm mistaken then!
Which Renault engine was it that was indestructible?

Or was that the old VAG 1.9TDI..

The non turbo F8Q is pretty sturdy.

I do have a Trafic with the 1.9 100 dci on 207k miles but seriously doubt much of it is original.

Aren't the injectors on these eye-wateringly expensive and difficult to replace?

Quite possibly. Appetite for turbos too and they usually do the whole runaway until it goes bang thing.

i had a laguna2 with the 1.9dci, turbo seals went, was pretty much fked by 103k miles.

do not go by the 18k oil change in the manual, 9k or 10k is best.

handling was ok for a big laguna, and it was comfyish and got some good mpgs but boy was it boring. and the electrics were terrible, I know of a few friends that have had meganes of this ilk who have had wiring issues and dashbords that go mad. i recall when my rear lights stopped working, i went to the scrappy to investige they had 5 in and 4 of them had some form of splicing into the rear loom to get various things working again, I ended up doing the same to get some actual brake lights.

i'd only consider renaults at 2-300 price point.

Rover 75 update...I bought it today
Drove it 45 miles to the MOT centre and it failed on indicator bulbs discolouring, a wiper blade and handbrake efficiency (no mention of droplinks)

All of the toys work and its drives a dream, very happy!

VAG 1.9 TDi PD engine is very reliable 115, 130, 150bhp versions IIRC.

The high point IMO between reliability, performance and economy.

As are (generally) 1990's cars

Got properly shafted on that megane earlier.

It was a nice day so thought I'd cycle down to Sidcup. Car was still for sale as of 5pm yesterday.

Anyway cycled there, went through Stratford, Greenwich and then lewisham, lee and Sidcup.

Got there at half one and the dipstick on the phone was like sorry mate sold the car this morning.

Then I got a puncture cycling home . fking bargain cars. fking bks.
