I waive my finders fee...
There's a cheap handbrake compensator you can buy on the forum solves the problem.
Also look up how to check and drank the plenum chambers.....
£245..... Utter bargain !!
Thankyou for posting it! I've got £5 I accidentally saved off the purchase price you can have (I forgot it was £245 and only took out £240)

I will try adjusting the drums and then if that doesn't do the trick I'll have to look up the compensator.

Also: it came with quarter of a tank of fuel too!

OK, so the previous snotter died a death (it lasted 18 months and 20K for the price of a new battery, tyres, oil and an MOT so I can't complain).

This is the new one - 2005 Golf TDI, 202K on the clock, one owner from new, a year's ticket for £500 plus the price of a cambelt change. Drives very well, gearbox seems sound, pretty immaculate apart from the surface scrape on the rear arch you can see in the photo. We'll see how it goes...

I'm thinking of having a punt on vw bora 130hdi.

It's a 2003 , 187k but mot's only to may .

Currently up to £200 with a day to go so was thinking of a max of £350 ?

There's also a 2001 307 2.0hdi for £400 mot'd until june , mot advisory was for low tyre tread and the tyrs have now been replaced.

And a bmw 523se for £600 mot'd until august but to be honest not sure it's worth paying the extra tax and fuel just to do a 5 mile commute.

I had a 307. Good car when it worked but at higher mileages they start to play up a bit. Crankshaft sensor went on mine together with coolant temperature sensor, thermostat and new battery .

It also needed new tyres all round , new brakes and the suspension was making sounds, so I got rid when it was at 104k

V comfortable cruisers though if you get a good one.

ive got a tdi 130 octavia which is pretty much a bora. on 170k and runs fine.

i would say that one needs a cambelt change, i paid 330 including waterpump and aux belt.
the boot issue not sure on that thou.

the biggest thing is making sure the oil has been changed with synthetic at 10k, if not i wouldn't bother.

At this end of the scale though i doubt it's going to come with full history with bills for oil changes every 10k.

Current owner has changed the oil and front control arm bushes though.

The non turbo F8Q is pretty sturdy.

I do have a Trafic with the 1.9 100 dci on 207k miles but seriously doubt much of it is original.
I have a Laguna dCi 130 with 230k and counting. Apart from the crank sensor and routine belt changes, engine is all original.

That Golf looks lovely with that interior. I'd be tempted if I needed something similar. Great shout.

I guess with the golf you need to add another £300 onto the price for a cambelt change.

auto civic <£700 with 52,000miles on AT link here.
here's another one with 38,000miles for sub £700. here

I don't know how reliable the autos are but surely it's good for another 100,000miles relatively worry free? bargains, the only thing that i find suspicuous is the first car having 5+ owners.

Ok basementers I plumbed the depths of gumtree and eBay today and ended up buying this

https://www.gumtree.com/p/citroen/citroen-xsara-1....

It drove well, had a good few weeks left in its mot and can't see any reason why it wouldn't pass again, very clean car, had stacks of documents and a full service history , last serviced 4 months ago, had its cam belt done 2 years ago, and is in all round good nick.

The only issue with it is the offside back door sometimes opens,,,then sometimes doesn't. I reckon I can probably fix it myself from what I read on the Internet, or if not it's a 30 quid part. Or I might just leave it tbh.

On account of that and the fact the mot is due in March , got the bloke down to 300 quid.

Yes, but what a comfortable way to commute!

My O/H uses our 523 to work and back (15 miles each way on hilly 'A' roads) and she manages 26mpg on average (and she doesn't pussyfoot about either).

Pretty much the same as the aero then.

They seem to have a reputation for being unreliable though and this one has had 4 years advisories for a oil leak from the cam cover.

Ah yes the cam cover...

It cost me £350 to replace mine (had to buy from BMW), as no used ones were available, and my was just a crumbling mess.

It's likely then that the ABS module isn't far of failing either (they don't like the heat).
