Sorry, should have said that it is still there just with a pipe straight through - new to diesels but I'm told that the testers only have to see that the unit it there.

Talk to me about Rover 75/MG ZTT estates. Mostly looking at the 1.8 or 2.0, manuals, 2001-2006 years (so pre- and post- facelift, I believe?). Anything to look out for, anything to watch or worry about?
Owner of 75, 2.5 kv6 75 which was a great bargain buy a couple of years ago, its a top of the range Con SE spec and stuffed with all the goodiesTo be honest I wouldn't go out of my way for a 1.8 as they suffer from HGF so unless it's in great condition I'd steer clear. They did a 2.0 v6 or the diesel "BMW" lump. The diesel you will obviously pay a premium for, but generally reliable if looked after. All manual cars can suffer from clutch servo / cylinder problems that can be a PITA to solve properly although there is a great owners club with plenty of help available.
Pick of the bunch I suppose if doing the mileage would be a 75 Diesel with an auto box, but I've noticed them creeping up in price lately as they've recieved a lot of coverage in various classic car mags.

Excellent response, just what I was looking for. Thanks!

That's not an R Design - wrong engine, no fog lights, wrong interior

Bodywork would take a lot of work too

10 years old, not a desirable model, practically every panel on it is significantly damaged and the interior looks a mess as well... you could probably by a clean one for £1500 - £2000 so why would anyone bother with one that looks like it has been so badly neglected.

Nigh on a grand for a base model, 10 year old 1.6 S40 in that state doesn't strike me as cheap. More than likely got a dash like a Christmas tree to go with its numerous mechanical issues. It's a dealer... it's cheap for a reason!

I'm just wondering how the rear view mirror ended up on the back seat

Massively underrated cars. As above don't bother with a 1.8 - it'll eat is gasket and they take about 12 seconds to 60.

Diesel is a good reliable motor and with a remap will have a good turn of speed. KV6 petrol engines are hardy and smooth but do love a drink.

Ive got a diesel auto and KV6 auto and they're both brilliant.

I've just looked at the pictures on the PC - on my phone I didn't notice any damage.

I get it now! It's not in nice shape at all

And a "trade seller" somewhere in the Hertfordshire area with no web presence and a mobile phone number... who posts an image where the dash clearly says "Service Overdue". Not the sharpest knife in the drawer! Run a mile.

Me too.
Next month hopefully. 1998 Corolla 1.6 SR. A dent on the wing and one on the rear bumper where I dropped the bike getting it out of the boot.

No idea how much it's worth. I'm 2nd owner and have owned it since 2010 and it's just on 58k miles.

Downward, can you tell me a bit more about your Corolla, via PM if you want to avoid breaking the rules.
Cheers

I had one of these. Nice black paint job and factory fitted wolfrace wheels. Was the most reliable car I've had by a country mile.

Were I looking for a cheapie right now, it would have to be this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

I had a poverty spec 1.8LX years ago, I did 100k miles in it and it never, not once let me down. Tyres is all I ever remember buying for it. One of the best value cars ever made, total quality. This one is the pinnacle of the species, and it lacks for nothing in my eyes. Perhaps it COULD be an auto, but meh, the auto boxes were less reliable than the manuals. Totally regret selling mine for a cheaper-to-run SEAT Ibiza 1.2. Gah. Bloody idiot.

I'm actually a bit sad that I'm not in the position of needing a car right now, otherwise I'd be on the phone and paying this bloke the asking price in advance.
Ah, lots of want for that... I reckon that would give a year's worth of fast, comfortable, reliable service without so much as a whisper of protest.
