Downward, can you tell me a bit more about your Corolla, via PM if you want to avoid breaking the rules.

Had an e mail and looks like the new car has been ordered for mid April rather than march

Picked this up at the weekend as I needed a cheap diesel for my new 70 mile daily commute.

Paid a whole £400 and it's the HDI135 version with half leather and not badly specced.

Drives well - has had the dpf delete, needs a windscreen but that's about it! Only fly in the ointment is that the insurance renewal quote has gone from £340 for my SAAB Convertible to £810 - whole idea was to save money!!

Might be back to the drawing board this weekend!

How did you mange that ? 307s are dirt cheap to insure. My 1.6 cost £230fully comp - and that was in one of uk's highest risk postcodes!!!

Owner of 75, 2.5 kv6 75 which was a great bargain buy a couple of years ago, its a top of the range Con SE spec and stuffed with all the goodiesTo be honest I wouldn't go out of my way for a 1.8 as they suffer from HGF so unless it's in great condition I'd steer clear. They did a 2.0 v6 or the diesel "BMW" lump. The diesel you will obviously pay a premium for, but generally reliable if looked after. All manual cars can suffer from clutch servo / cylinder problems that can be a PITA to solve properly although there is a great owners club with plenty of help available.
Pick of the bunch I suppose if doing the mileage would be a 75 Diesel with an auto box, but I've noticed them creeping up in price lately as they've recieved a lot of coverage in various classic car mags.
Excellent response, just what I was looking for. Thanks!
I had 2.5 and a cdt - both , sadly were most unreliable cars i owned in 25 yrs

Genuinely thought about throwing a bid in for that for a moment, then I remembered all the reasons why not to bid on a whim. Nice looking car, diesel would suit me for my trips to the office, no good for children and golf clubs though. And cloth interior.

Looks cracking for a 1K car, its done barely 100K, meaning the diesel is only just run in. The rest might be a bit rough, but id have that every day of the week (if i lived in the UK and needed a diesel)

Is £1650 (at the moment) too high for this thread? I can't leave :

Hadn't realised how cheap these are.

Googling for reviews shows they don't drive as good as they look and no V6 option frown

I bought a GT a few months ago. As a car I'm very impressed and they're great value for money. My particular example was "talked up" a bit by the seller lets say.

if I didn't have one too many cars already I would be buying this for the £630 asking price without any hesitation:

This dates from when Peugeot made great handling cars. For anyone fed up of harsh riding low profile tyred cars driving this car will be a revelation.

Some strange oddities.

low local recent mileage - wtf does this mean?
It's one owner but it as been owned by someone for the last 8 years, what about the other 8?

It means that for the past 8 years it's been owned by some old bloke who has only used it to go to the shops and hasn't put much mileage on it over his 8 years of ownership.

Who knows how many miles were on it when it bought it 8 years ago?

I looked at these a while back, they can suffer some pretty horrific rot apparently, a few 'Alfa' niggles but get one with the leather sports seats and you're laughing smile

ETA: the JTD diesel is used by Vauxhall (cdti) and Saab (Tid). Fiat/ Alfa/ Iveco invented common rail technology I believe.

41968 according to the Feb 2009 MOT.
It's got a 12 month ticket on too!

The HDI was terribly slow.

I had a 2.0 petrol as a Co. car and TBH as a rep mobile it was great.

I'm sure someone on here a while back (in this very thread) said they can be mapped to 150+ bhp?

Rot seems to be confined to the front subframe, not always catastrophic, but it is a water trap.
