if I didn't have one too many cars already I would be buying this for the £630 asking price without any hesitation:

This dates from when Peugeot made great handling cars. For anyone fed up of harsh riding low profile tyred cars driving this car will be a revelation.
Absolutely agree. I used to deliver new leased BMWs and often had to drive back in the cars they were replacing - usually a 3yr old Passat/Vectra/BMW and occassionaly a 406. First time I drove one I was immediately impressed with how comfortable it was and how 'right' it felt to drive.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

Reckon the car in question is sold as it's no longer on AT, I'm glad because it looked so good I was going to buy it even though I didn't need it. MOT history showing potential need for new rear discs and maybe springs. That's all. They aren't slow either (at least the 110 model) and will remap to 140bhp without need for anything else.

Some strange oddities.
low local recent mileage - wtf does this mean?
It's one owner but it as been owned by someone for the last 8 years, what about the other 8?
It means that for the past 8 years it's been owned by some old bloke who has only used it to go to the shops and hasn't put much mileage on it over his 8 years of ownership.low local recent mileage - wtf does this mean?

Who knows how many miles were on it when it bought it 8 years ago?
...It hadn't been out of the town in many years and had exceptionally low mileage for its age so when it was taken onto the motorway to drive the 30 miles or so home after the purchase, the oil pickup clogged up with all the debris and sludge from having never been properly warmed up and it lunched the bottom end of the engine within about 15 minutes.

Which sounds great on paper, but I bought an Omega 2.0 with a similar description a while ago...

Ouch. I've always maintained I'd much rather have a car that's done mostly motorway work than town, this is reason #1....It hadn't been out of the town in many years and had exceptionally low mileage for its age so when it was taken onto the motorway to drive the 30 miles or so home after the purchase, the oil pickup clogged up with all the debris and sludge from having never been properly warmed up and it lunched the bottom end of the engine within about 15 minutes.

Update on the £240 Rover 75:
Whilst adjusting the handbrake fro its retest I found two nails on one of the tyres, so I took it to a local tyre place to have it replaced...Only I ended up paying £30 for a 15 year old Pirelli P6000 which they didn't bother balancing. If you're in Coventry avoid ABC tyres like the plague. I'll be sure to monitor tyre fitters alot more closely from now on.
Had to withstand the horrible vibration for 330miles on a trip that night, awful. Luckily a set of the same wheels with 4 good dunlop sport BluResponse tyres on came up nearby on ebay, managed to nab them for £60
Should be able to sell the old wheels and tyres on for £60 so I'll break even on that, meaning the car owes me about £330. It is still the most comfortable and relaxing car I've ever driven, and a complete and utter bargain!

I know a few PH'ers are fond of the 1.4 HDi but does anyone have any experience with the 110bhp 1.6 HDi? This one's pretty tidy

The 1.6 is a toxic pile of st which should be avoided however not sure if this holds true the cheaper they get. I know a few PH'ers are fond of the 1.4 HDi but does anyone have any experience with the 110bhp 1.6 HDi? This one's pretty tidy
Wasn't sure where to put this as there is no price, but someone has just posted this on the village FB page where I live:
If anyone's interested let me know and I'll put you in touch.

- Car for sale*. I have inherited a car with a house that I recently bought. It was left in the garage and has clearly not been used in years. It doesn't start and tyres are flat, but other than that seems in good condition.

I know this one has sold, but definitely agree, I remember my mate dropping me off in one of these in the mid 90's, it would have been his company car, he worked for Rolls Royce not the motor division, and my recollection of the 406 was it was fantastic for driving over pot holes, a really refined car, with a fantastic ride, how I wished for one on Wednesday night as I drove over a pot hole and suffered a puncture, ahh! the memories, and my next car will have balloon like tyres, fed up with our crappy roads. After a recent bad experience with the theft of my nice car, I have decided to have a go at shedding until we move house later this year. I bought this yesterday for £950

Everything works, 69k miles, and that lovely 5 cylinder 2.3 (as used in the focus RS) gets it along very nicely.

The Focus RS engine is a derivation of the 2.5T engine, which Volvo started calling T5 after they discontinued the original 2.3 because it would be too expensive to make it meet the new emissions regs. Sorry, Volvo beard attack I have a real hankering for an original T5, hard to find a decent one these days though.
