I know a few PH'ers are fond of the 1.4 HDi but does anyone have any experience with the 110bhp 1.6 HDi? This one's pretty tidy
The 1.6 is a toxic pile of st which should be avoided however not sure if this holds true the cheaper they get. I know a few PH'ers are fond of the 1.4 HDi but does anyone have any experience with the 110bhp 1.6 HDi? This one's pretty tidy
I would rather st on my hands and clap rather than buy a 1.6HDI of that era.
Joined the fray 26/12/16. Bought a 2001 75 Connie SE cdt it was not the best of adverts on a 75 forum and I passed it buy a number of time on a search for diesel ZT or 75. The bloke was looking to sell at £650 and after looking at some tat I gave this another look at. This was his Youtube view https://youtu.be/mizFvOKYwQk.
I went bought the car and have done 5750 mles since. It has had a T4 (MG/Rover boys will know) session improving not just the power but also the mpg. The mpg is now around 52-55mpg and when I did the best I could I say over 59mpg, mainly motorway sitting at an indicated 70mph.
Major investment yesterday, bought a set of clips for the missing trim (£4 with postage) so I am more than happy to say the least.

i keep looking at old vw diesels as the engines seem more reliable with no particulate filters.

I know this one has sold, but definitely agree, I remember my mate dropping me off in one of these in the mid 90's, it would have been his company car, he worked for Rolls Royce not the motor division, and my recollection of the 406 was it was fantastic for driving over pot holes, a really refined car, with a fantastic ride, how I wished for one on Wednesday night as I drove over a pot hole and suffered a puncture, ahh! the memories, and my next car will have balloon like tyres, fed up with our crappy roads.
Robert DeNiro had a 406 as a company car once. egor110 said:

Just missed out on this earlier. Could have been worth a gamble. Not a very popular model (somewhat overshadowed by the Civic Type R) and rather bland. Low bids could have also been down to the fact the owner couldn't spell the name of his car correctly and the advert is lacking in detail. Also has an MOT that allegedly runs out in July, but MOT checker says it has only got 2 weeks left. Still, at a fair chunk under a grand, there are certainly worse ways I can think of smoking about...

I never understand why people misspell such basic things and write such crap adverts. Presumably they're not interested in getting a good price for the car.
I think theory would tell us that that could be quite a good car, whereas practice (every one I've ever seen has been a completely knackered dog of a car, burning oil badly) would tell us to stay away.

The excellent JAPEX (Japanese specialist) used to put me in one of these as a courtesy car. They go like the absolute bloody clappers towards the red line. Hilariously so."Corrolla"

Someone got a bargain. Most of these end up being butchered for their engines."Corrolla"

Ambulances are driven to within an inch of their life. Avoid avoid avoid.
Anyone for £600 worth of Saab torque steer? 9-5 3.0t Griffin that's been to the moon. But a large amount of bang for the buck!

That corolla is fking cheap - I just sold one recently for a fair bit more and it was a riot to drive for the money!
Not especially. That's about the going price for one with over 100k miles, almost all are ~£1k - the few that are priced above that are either low milers, heavily modded, or have some optional extras like leather interior (which itself sells for £300-500 used). Facebook and Gumtree are littered with examples.Great things in a straight line, not so inspiring through the twisties though.

I not think you will get much torque steer at 200bhp. the are crap engines, bot much rooms for improvements and guzzle fuel.
You've not driven many Saabs have you?Toaster Pilot said:

Yep, I thought so. I can't find many for less than £1200 and whilst it is difficult to tell from the scant description and one photo, it doesn't look like a total dog egg. If the seller put a years MOT on it too, then it was a proper bargain. Oh well, on to the next... Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
