Are the 407 in bargain basement territory ? I don't know when they replaced the 406. I never see them around.
All burned out or exploded?

No idea if it's a bargain but who wouldn't be tempted by a manual V6 estate with leather for £450?

This might be a cheap car for someone. Service history looks decent:

Judging by the MOT history it's not had a lot of love, and I'd worry it's been run on a shoestring and have the potential for massive bills.

Is that smoke coming out the back in the first pic?

smile

On a more serious note, worth a punt? If it's done 272,000, will it do more?

Seems to have a warning light on on the dash too.

Not for a grand , far better buys around for half that you just have to drop the brand requirement and be up for paying more tax.

Seems a bit pricey considering the mileage?

I have no specific brand requirement. smile

Just after something cheap with a good boot (estate) or hatchback with good space with the seats down.

2.2l Astra convertible
Needs maybe £500 of bodywork, which i wouldnt be adverse to.

That 2.2 engine is very prone to timing chain stretch though - with usually just an EML to show for it initially.....
My wife had a 2.2 coupe as a company car back in 2001, the timing chain snapped without warning at 20k miles!

WTF. Isn't the whole point of a chain to avoid that issue?

So what you safe at time of purchase you end up spending on RFL during ownership?

I think that 530d is lovely. Very good MOT history. I reckon you could drive that away for £850.

When your paying sub £1000 it's a trade off .

Do i buy a simpler petrol engine and live with the higher fuel/tax bill or do i go for a diesel and risk dmf/injectors/turbo problems but have the much better mpg and tax bill?

Can anyone suggest anything <£1000 that is a good purchase? Needs to have room to put the rear seats down and chuck a bike in the back. It'll also be used to ferry my fiancée and daughter around from time to time. That's it really. smile Not bothered about economy as I walk to work.

Been looking at the budget stuff around my area (Lincolnshire) and am struggling to find something suitable. I know a car at this price isn't going to be perfect, but something usable for a bit would be nice.

I need to get something as I suspended my insurance policy when I sold my Mazda in October last year. I've been told that the suspension has a time limit. If it expires, my policy will be stopped, I'll be refunded the difference and I'll lose the no claims I've built up for years now.

183 cars within 30 miles of LN2 2EX (you only say Lincoln but don't say where) listed on Autotrader

I see a Ford Focus Estate from a private seller for £500 for a start...

NCD is valid for (I think) 2 years after policy cancellation. Your broker will advise.
