This looks like it might stay in budget and generally looks pretty tidy.

Any good for a bit of towing? I've got some memory that the towing capacity on these was 3500kg, or is that wrong?

The problem is - I'm a perfectionist and very picky. I'd buy it and then make it perfect.
Thing is, you'd get a perfect one for a grand, so it's a bit pointless buying a snotter.

Mum had one from almost new and it expired after about 10. It was a Daewoo badged one with full leather which was nice enough till me and my 2 brothers got hold of it.

Engine shat a turbo, gearbox lost 4wd so wasnt worth fixing.

However it will tow 3.5ton, normally the engines are ok (merc stuff). Mums however did quite alot of towing, mainly a plant trailer with either 3ton (yes overweight - get over it) of stone chips or a landy on it. While also being using on a 4wd course which ended many a 300tdi disco's life so was expected to fail at some point.

Wouldnt avoid one but just be careful getting hold of spares can be a right pain in the ass.

I always secretly liked these.

Jesus Christ, why? That thing looks like something the local council scheme dogging crew would buy. Not to mention it's so ugly it would make a blind kid cry.

Just no. Not ever.

Take yourself for a rebrief FFS!

I suppose it's a tool like a hammer...a hammer isn't nice to look at (just like this hideous POS), but as a tool, it's fine.

No sane person would buy a Musso on it's looks!

I'd say it's the least-offensive of the Sssangyong styling team's efforts... For a 90s cheap 4x4 that doesn't look that bad.

Last time I checked, it was advertised at £695.

If you're a perfectionist, head to your local official dealer with £50k in your pocket. Perfection and this thread do not go together!
Official SAAB dealer...hmmm, that could be a problem biggrin
I buy old cars, do them up (bit of a hobby)...keep them for a year or two and then sell, usually for what I paid for them originally, or sometimes for a slight profit.
Fair enough. I just risk under £1k for a car that will hopefully last a year. I don't have the skills to fix anything tricky.

Christ, that's slow. Is it good at what it does, though? I guess that's the main thing.

I thought perhaps it might have an impressive amount of torque, for pulling heavy things (like its own weight for example) - but it seems not.

Google suggests it has 250 Nm of torque... in comparison, the current 320d 3 series has 400 Nm smile

Although a late 1990s car, I wonder if the engine is some what older design, and probably was pretty good for its time?

If my memory serves me rightly its an old Merc engine.

A landy 300tdi has more torque than that. As for the sanbong mullered or whatever its called it's a bucket of fat ugly looking for a place to die. Don't let yours be the last rug it pisses on before it gets the long walk to the back field.

I'm going to look at this 2002 SAAB 93 convertible in about an hour.
He wants £695 but I'm going to offer £400 - wish me luck.
The only thing worrying me is the oil sludging and cracked bulkhead reputation?
I'd be surprised if he doesn't get £650 for it.
Well I got him down to £550, I may offer £500 take it or leave it.
Downsides...
It's fairly grubby inside, but nothing a bit of elbow grease can't fix.
Radio aerial is missing, phone antenna looks like it's been chewed by something. Roof get's stuck and needs a bit of help opening and closing.
Roof has a few frayed bits and the mechanism is quite rusty. A bit of water pooled out when the roof did open, so I suspect the seals are getting a bit tired.
There's a U shaped crack in the top passenger's side windscreen.
Oh and it did seem to shake quite a bit...is this scuttle shake that everyone talks about? It's like a very unbalanced front wheel that comes and goes (first time in a convertible).

So nothing that isn't fixable.
Very tempting. Just a shame the tax in £300 per year!

Wouldn't do it if I was you - I couldn't get £100 even, my asking price was £300. Sold it for £75 and it ran and drove

What did you sell - was it a Saab convertible?
