I think I expected the bodyshop that clearly did the arch repair to do it properly! the paint job is really good but I have no idea how they welded metal that thin on top..

That's how good they are!

How much did the TF cost you?

Fill it, drive it, enjoy it until it fails an MOT then bin it.

Any thoughts on this as a long term shed?

I don't think I've missed anything. Low miles, decent condition, clear MOT history (MOT until March 2018, no advisories at all)

From the last picture it looks like it has been adapted to have hand controls? Not necessarily off-putting though.

I had a 2.6 as a shed. It was ok, threw me a lot of bills though. A few common issues -
Very tyre fussy, they can tramline like a bh and it's a sod to sort.
Mine had a major wobble which was sensor related, again, was a sod to sort.
EML light on at that age can often be the cats on the way out, which bearing in mind there's two can be uneconomical to repair, so makes sure you have a good test drive to get it warm.
Oh, and my 2.6 only did 300 miles to £80 of unleaded.... smile

Or, cut it out, make a paper template, cut a piece of steel out and weld it in, or pay someone to do it, looks a fairly easy repair.

hopefully get 200 quid for my old car as scrap so only 235 quid for another car. tax is a bit steep but insurance 100 quid cheaper so all good.

Need some assistance!

Going to have to give my company car back in the next 2 weeks so need to sort out some wheels on the cheap relatively quickly.

Criteria:

  • Estate
  • Saab 9-5/Rover 75/BMW 5 series size
  • Petrol
  • Relatively reliable (of course it's all relative at this price point)
  • Automatic would be a plus but again I know that they can be a gamble on many cars
So far been looking at Saab 9-5's as I had one previously and loved it, but it stung me £700 for a new clutch (including fitting) so trying to steer clear of high mileage ones (140k+).

Open to other suggestions!

I'm in Swindon if that helps - all suggestions appreciated smile

Yes, or Honda Accord Aerodeck, or Mazda6, or Toyota Yawn, anything old and Japanese, basically.

Or an E39 wink

Hadn't thought of Legacy's, but didn't think boxer engines would match well to the bangernomics lifestyle considering servicing is a bit more difficult?

Had look at a couple of accords, boring but a good option.

Not had a look at Mazda 6's, what are they like? Anything to look out for? We've had the newer ones as company cars in our company but they all had issues post 60k miles so a bit wary.

Ha, E39 530i or 540i would be the dream! Finding a good one under a grand however....
