This is a bit of a therapy topic for me so it may ramble a bit.

Sitting here typing this with 18 stitches in my face, a depressed fracture in my cheek, nerve damage resulting in a half numb face and a half decent Sloth impression going on due to the swelling and closed up eye. This is all courtesy of a nice chap and a hammer that didn't know how to filter.

All still a bit of a blur the last couple of days, most of which have been in hospital. It all happened on the way home from work Wednesday evening, was just coming through Coulsdon under the bridge where you queue in two lanes. I was in the left lane when the lights went green do just filtered in one at a time as we went forward apart from captain road rage. No he just needed to be that one place ahead of me even though I have already taken up position behind the car in front.

He's now all bells and whistles up behind me, which stupidly I paid too much attention to and didn't see the traffic stop ahead of me so had to wang on the anchors causing us both to stop abruptly. not as quick as he was out of his car though kicking seven shades out of the little clio.

Didn't really fancy hanging around so at the first opportunity I popped up the next junction and on my merry way, more than a little shaken at his massive overreaction at a situation he caused. found my way back to where I wanted to be and carried on until the next set of lights, unbeknown to me it seems that was not the end of our tiff.

The next bits are a bit of a blur but amounts to suddenly my side window exploding in on me followed by 3 swift blows from a hammer, reactions kicked in and just went, didn't pass out but was very close. luckily for me there was a BMW going by the junction at the time who rapidly cam along side and flagged me down. If you ever read this I owe you guys the more than I could ever give, they helped my in the car, called the police and ambulance etc and I honestly can say if they hadn't been around i'm not sure how things would have turned out.

All of the emergency service where amazing, again too many people helped that I will never be able to thank properly.

Over the next few weeks I have some surgery (Titanium plate in my cheek) and all sorts of tests to ensure my sight etc comes back as well as it can, after that many many days of just wondering why.

meanwhile out there now is still some nutter who feels justified in hitting another human being in the face with a hammer because they think you shouldn't have filtered in from of them in order.

Anyway, its off my chest a bit now. please all stay safe out there and remember that one extra place in line isn't the end of the world.

Apologies for spelling and grammar, typing is hard with no depth perception.

Jesus, so sorry to hear this, could have been so much worse of course.

It's a tough lesson though, whilst this guy clearly over reacted, you have to admit to yourself that maybe you had a part to play in provoking him. Not that it makes it right of course, but it just shows that its sometimes not worth getting into bust ups with other drivers. Even something like refusing to let someone push in can result in this.

People that do this sort of thing don't have good lives. Nobody decent happy person does this. He doesn't deserve a good life anyway.

What was he doing with a hammer? Looking for trouble? This is one reason I think in car cameras are worthwhile even if it catches other people being the victims.

Thanks all, he police have been very honest with what they are able to do, they have my car at the moment for all the forensic tests. The office said it would come back a bit of a mess but let him know it wouldn't look any different smile

One of the most difficult parts of the night was calling the girlfriend, was torn between needing someone there and not wanting to put her through al this. Friends and family have been amazing though.

The cameras around this bit are apparently "live feed" ones? so aren't actually recorded.

For my peace of mind I hope he gets caught, but also so he gets stopped for doing it to someone else.

Bloody hell that's terrible, my heart goes out to you.

I was thinking about a road rage thread after some bellend in an old school green vectra gave me a load of hassle last night for not driving fast enough for him - I was on the way to pick up my dogs ashes and in a bit of a state.

People really make me sick to my stomach every day.

fk mate. Hope you make a full recovery.

Coulsdon is sort of my neck of the woods - do you remember what he was driving?

I had an altercation with someone earlier in the week, identical situation - 2 lanes into 1 really seems to bring out the worst in people.

eta I had some knuckle-dragging tt get out of his white van after I took offence to being completely cut up in the middle of Sutton. Not a very nice feeling. Tend to drive with the doors locked since then. Trouble is these s have a lot less to lose than a normal member of the public so it isn't worth the bother. Shame I didn't get his reg though
